For shoulders at the moment I am doing Barbell Military Press and the other exercise I do is where I hold a plate in each hand and raise them to shoulder level (what do you call that? - Plate lateral raises?)
Can you recommend any other shoulder exercises I can do? Is the second exercise I described above a waste of time?
Cheers.

I dont do much for shoulders
Behind neck smith machine press to top set of 6 reps strict form
and db side raises 10 rep sets, heavy as possible
or another day
db presses to top set of 6-10 reps heavy as possible deep reps
behind neck barbell press for 8-10 reps (hard to take these heavy for me after db work)
db side raises
plates raises are fine too

Steve come and have a word. I never do anything behind the neck especially press or pulldown as I like my rotator cuffs to much to want to screw them up.

Ok thanks both of you. I found a really useful website www.exrx.net

Yeah that website is good. I've used it before for trying to explain exercises to people on the net (where a practical demonstration is impossible).

pay just as much attention to the rear delts as you do the rest of the shoulder it keeps the joint stabalised !

Yeah thats why you take it higher reps, ed coan shoulder work was behind the neck presses, and yeah I know its more risky doing it, but if its controlled you should be ok. I also didnt do behind the neck work because of fear for injury, but I havent got injured on it yet,
I dont do behind the necks everyweek, all the time too

Good point.
I train shoulders and core at home so I have a barbell and plates only.
Done the following today with a plate gripped in each hand instead of dumbells, is that sufficient for rear delts?

No its not Steven you need to hit them harder ! i gave up with normal bent over laterals when it was aparent i was still using the same dumbells i was using when i started ! which is obviously a bit of a waste of time .
i use the same method of single arm supported raises Svend Karlsen uses which gives a greater range of movement and far more overload and the weight shows increases which is a lot more encouraging for the time and effort spent doing them ;)
rowing movements, facepulls etc think things up for yourself as long as you feel it in the right place and the weights are increasing on a regular basis.

try taking 2 seconds to lift the weight and 4 seconds to lower it i doubt if you will be doing 20 reps then :)

Get a bit of kit like Bulldog that allows you to add free weights to the stack or just use fee weights anyway.

Al, any better description of these - I'm getting sore (itchy and pulled) shoulder blades (between the blades) from an increase in benching - I'm interested to try anything !

its just a single arm supported version of bent over raises .
normaly done resting on the pad of a preacher bench (resting or rather supporting yourself with arm not being used you can rest your head on the arm) then from a bent over 90 degree angle move the dumbell so it crosses over your chest giving a maximum stretch then bring it in an arc upwards to maximum contraction hold possition for a second and slowly return to start possition , when fatigued you can swing it a bit to get a rep or two extra out.

Machines are shit, do military press, push press for the extra weight and one arm DB clean and press.
