Im new and know NOTHING of competitions. Im 16 (24/3/92) and live in Edinburgh. Know of ANY competitions?
Do i need to sign up for anything?
Does a Belt and Straps put one into the "Equipped" Catagory?
170kg Squat
105kg Bench
175kg Deadlift
Can i do anything major?
Thanks for reading. Take Care :D

A belt is fine for unequipped. Straps are not allowed in comps, either unequipped OR equipped. Your lifts are very respectable and I am sure you would enjoy competitions. The BDFPA (and I believe BWLA) allow lifters to enter from age 14. The best thing you can do is find a powerlifter to train with, they will help you, tell you if your lifts would pass in a competition and sort you out with a suitable 1st comp.

Send Andy Clegg a PM from this site, he lives up there in Bonny Scotland and I'm sure he can point you in the right direction.
There's also this site: http://www.scottishpowerlifting.com/

whats your bodyweight?
a 170kg squat at 16 is good. Even just unracking that beast is impressive!

Im 81.4kg...Ive been training for a bit now, since like 13-14, but only seriously for the past 4-5months!
So "Goodwinner" i gather you are relatively young aswell, do you think i could compete at a good level?

I think you've got some good lifts there. Remember that when lifting in comps there are certain rules for each lift. For bench you need your ass to on the bench the entire time and your feet on the floor.
You need to wait for commands to lower the weight and then hold it at the bottom of the lift until the ref says 'up' or 'bench' and then you press. So try training with slight pauses at squats and benching. Deadlift is a little simpler. Lift the bar off the floor and pull. No hitching and no downward movment once you begin the pull.
Theres a little more to it than that I think (me never competed before) but I believe thats the general jist of it.
Get lifting and enter some comps! I know I will be soon.
where abouts you live?

I live up in Edinburgh, and alot of the comps being discussed here seem to be down in England. Im happy enough to travel but if the comp is on a saturday i also have Rugby aswell as i play for the 1XV and my coach would whoop my ass if i even thought about missing a game. :(
