Beat my push press record yesterday.
My shoulders are my weakest point but I managed to push press 90kg for 1 rep.
I then tried 100kg but I got stuck halfway.
Im working towards a 1.5 x BW push press. So at this time that will probably be just under a 150kg push press. (something to train towards!)
It was also my squat day so after doing lots of sets of 5 of 100kg and sets of 4 of 120kg I attempted some half squats of 170kg, Just to know what it feels like having a little bit more weight on your shoudlers.
I managed to get 2 solid half squats. (My dad said they were deeper than quarter so I was very pleased). I went for the 3rd rep but had to bail on the pegs.
Im 98.5kg in weight and always squat raw and my belt doesnt fit me anymore so I dont use that either. I'll have to get a new one I think because if im gonna be trying 170kg for a full rep I may need some extra support!
Anybody in here who can push press their bodyweight? or even more impressive static mil press it?

I don't ever push press as I don't think this does your shoulders justice.
I can military press 115kgs x 5 reps @ 90kgs b/w whilst seated, and also whilst taking it off a power rack.
Shame the rest of my lifts aint that great...

i push press train aswell as mil press because Im training for strongman comps.
115kg x 5 is pretty damn brilliant at 90kg BW. What are your other lifts then?

Deadlift 230kgs, Bench 140kgs, Squat 200kg but not really training this hard as I also do alot of running/football.

a 570kg total @ 90kg is super. You have the same bench as me. I hardly train my chest. I guess your the same too.
100m sprint?

Used to be a respectable sprinter 11.8 secs 100 metres when I was 16 and 12.5 stone - was good but not good enough !!!
Now I am merely training just to keep reasonable strength/shape - could push it harder but only train 3/4 times a week...
One thing I will say is that people do neglect the military press/shoulders.

Wow this thread makes me sad, because my shoulders are so damn weak!!!! :(:(
static millitary press yes but then again that is only just less than 80kg lol.

Shame the rest of my lifts aint that great...That's amazingly good. Especially when your bench is only 140k. I can bench a fair bit more than you, but there's no way I'd be able to do 115x5 seated militaries. Are you actually lowering the reps all the way?

Yeah 115x5 for strict military press is pretty fucking brilliant. As Tom asks are these all the way down to the neck?

Where neck = top of chest.

Did the 115kgs for 5 reps with plenty to go, all the way down - again another
point I think people need to do with the military press is get the full range of movement - Eddie Bitek spotted for me, no assistance.
I have also cleaned and pressed (again I think push press is a waste of time for shoulder development) from the floor 100kgs easy, but my cleaning technique is completely unorthodox and not efficient - self taught and not bothered about improving this.
I may have strong shoulders granted, but what has always p1ssed me
off is that my bench is rubbish. It's just one of those things - had lots
of people take a look at it, I just think I am crap bencher - and lots of people
don't understand that my strength in my shoulders doesn't translate into a strong bench - weird!

This is the typical way I train for the military press and I always do this fresh 1st exercise on shoulders day.
10 reps x 40kgs
10 reps x 50kgs
10 reps x 60 kgs
These are fast quick back to back sets with about 30 secs gap in between whilst
loading the bar, setting myself.
Then I go to what I call my working sets/checkpoint.
6 reps x 80kgs 3 min rest.
3 reps x 90kgs 3 min rest.
If I nail 90kgs comfortable (always do) that sets me up for the following nicely: -
3 reps x 105kgs 3 min rest
?? reps x 115kgs
This again may seem very unorthodox/lots of sets etc., but it works, I only seem to feel under pressure from 100kgs upwards, the rest is very easy.

My best recent clean and military press is 105kg at 98kg bodyweight. Unfortunately, my best push press is only 7.5kg more than this -I don't seem to be able to coordinate the leg drive successfully though.
I love overhead pressing. If I could get 300lb overhead, I would be a happy man.
For some reason, I find that I can seated military press more than I can standing - I think maybe I inadvertantly lean back into the seat and turn it into a high incline press.

Tann - Its just practise, practise, practise! You will be able to push press more if you practise and also maybe trying some power moves. Perhaps some plyometrics? And some lightweight speedy push presses.
Its just about using the shoulders and legs togethor. I found it hard but since doing a lot more push presses, jumping work and jumping squats it has worked a treat!

Tann- Seated pressing is always a stronger movement because you don't have to use all the muscles you have to use when standing. Remember that your brain has to coordinate all of that muscle firing at the same time and in the right order so it's easier to do them seated. My best strict standing press is 265lbs at 280lbs bw. That however was 9 months ago when I only benched 355 and now I bench 410 "all my lifts are raw" so I'm assuming it's higher as well. My best behind the neck press seated is 315X3 and 225X15 and I don't know about seated militaries though, because I always do that movement standing. It is a great movement for the bench because when you do learn to bench correctly, the shoulders do a lot of stabilizing and the stronger the better.

You push 140kg from your shoulders......:shock:
Nice.

Hi,
I don't bother with pressing behind the neck no more as apparantly it causes injuries and you also need a spotter as the angle is more awkward than the front press.
Your front military press seated should be alot stronger, I used to only do it standing, but now I don't see the point as you are there to train the shoulders, not waste energy stabilising the bar when taking it out of the rack - so to be honest I am getting more out of seated military than standing presses.
I use the Hammer Strength plate loading machine straight after front military presses and go up to 160kgs for 4 - 8 reps., granted it's a machine but it does give you a bluddy good shoulder workout in safety.
I hate and never use smith machines too.
Reverse flys on the machine also hit the rear delts best I think...
