Hi Folks, been poking around here a bit as a guest and not joined as ive been in awe of some of the folks posting here, but decided its good company to be in so signed up :)
I got back into training last year. After a lay off of about 10 years (in which time i put on about 6 stone of lard). Bodybuilt a bit in my early 20s after i came out of the forces, nothing serious but learned a fair bit from a couple of competing amateurs i trained with.
Starting squatting and deadlifting for the first time and really enjoyed it so looked into powerlifting and decided its something id like to get into as i really miss competing in a sport (played football in the army and at a decent amateur level).
So far my best singles are 240kg deadlift, 180kg squat and 120kg bench.
Benchpress is by far my worst lift but i think ive identified a weakness which im working on.
Also just got my first belt and knee and wrist wraps fron Inzer so looking forward to putting them to use.
Im currently 35 years old, 117kg and estimate im at least 20% BF so im currently working towards a goal of 110kg bodyweight and a combined lift of 570kg. Id like to be there by the summer.
All going well id like to be looking to compete by this time next year, so any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Good luck mate. My bench and deadlift are down a bit at the moment, but my best lifts are: 235kg deadlift, 180 squat, 120 bench! And I weigh 117kg at about 22% bodyfat. So your stats look kinda familiar!

Hi mate. Firstly you are not old ...well by my standars, and you are still in the major senior class - up to 40 for all federations I believe. Dont be in a hurry, dont overtrain and dont skimp on paying your dues (do the hard sets of 5/6 to failure) and keep away from the singles every week. Good luck.

Cheers for the advice mate, i am avoiding singles at the mo, training 3 times a week on a steady 5x5 progression, alternating ramps and sets across week on week.
Was a bit arrogant the first time i did 5 reps of 180kg deads which paid me back with a nicely pulled quad.. never again :)

Because if you make a goal...its better to compete as soon as possible...then you can make a goal for next year with experience.

A lot of your posts on this board are just rubbish and annoying to read and not only because of your text talk.
If you actually had half a brain and read my post i said for our standards meaning pushing our own boundries, the man has just got back into training his own personal standards wont be high enough for his likings yet... thus he will wait until next year when he will be lifting to a high standard for himself.
You teens what will we do with you:rolleyes:

35 old!!!!!!
I was 45 and 120+ kilos before I ever picked up a weight.
Now I'm 50 and 110 kilos.
Good luck with the training, keep a log and keep us all informed about your progress.
I apologise for the apparent hijacking of your thread above, however we have all got opinions and can all offer advice, at least you can choose what to take on board and what to ignore.
Generally on this site you will get some very good advice, personally, I have found all the guy's on here very helpful. I must agree with comments about txt tlk though.
