Benedikt Magnusson deadlifted 992 pounds in training yesterday in Denmark while preparing for the strongman competition at the Arnold Classic. His workout consisted of deadlifting 705, 793, 881, and 925 before the 992. Magnusson plans to step back on the powerlifting platform in 2008, likely in the Spring. He has the second highest deadlift of all-time. His 970 is behind only Andy Bolton's 1,003 pounds.

That's amazing! Imagine what he'd pull in a comp now if it all came together on the day?!...
I'm sure Andy will be pulling (and keeping hold of) 460kg in the not too distant future...

I can own up now its over but we did try to sneak Benny into the building at the Hirep Bash while Andy was here but things didnt work out .
Benny sounded very confident about breaking the record when we spoke to him recently though he wasnt letting anything slip about when he intended to compete but Andy also was very confident he will beat the record and i wouldnt miss this for all the Sidders in the world this is real entertainment !

out of the four records personly i think the deadlift is the best as there is far less to argue over , squat is too iffy did it break debth or not yer but what kits he wearing etc and same with bench but deadlifts another matter its more raw strength and grip comes into it and that you cant cheat on

Totally agree with you on this one... The DL is a true test of pure strength, grit and determination!

it will be great to see andy win ,funny how its a true test of strength always rolled out by good deadlifters who are anotomically gifted for it but often shit at sqt and bench or shoulder strength, doesent apply to andy though lol

Don't know what you're on about haha.... I'll always be shit at benching but hopefully my squat won't be too embarrassing by summer...

While we're on the subject, is Mr Magnusson any good at benching or squatting? I've only ever seen vids of him deadlifting...
theres a vid of the 2003 ipf champs on youtube with him in it, squats 300 odd i think and benches close to 200 i think, i might be ay off though

his squat and bench r big but very out of proportion to his deadlift, which is his biggest asset. he's very young, must only be about 27??

He's much younger - he's 24!

maybe him, and this austrian junior are a new breed of human! haha. imagine his deadlift when he's 30+

Benni is far from weak at the squat and bench and would push the figures much higher if he concentrated on them. When he was 19yrs old he squatted 360kg and benched 240kg at the Icelandic Championships, and I believe the lifts were in single ply. He's also pretty useful overhead-I think his loglift is in the 180kg range. The competition will do Andy good-after all it was Benni that gave him the push to get 1003 by taking his earlier record. Andy was unchallenged for years on the deadlift, but Benni's appearance made him find another 30kg-competiton is always a good thing.

Benny has only been quiet for a while because he had a very busy year moving to Denmark and starting a new job and recently getting married to Gemma , we tried at least three times last year to get him here but it was either his new job sending him to Sweden or he got bit by a spyder that turned his leg black and swollen up but he sometimes comes here and stays with Colin A so hopefully we will see him here this year maybe
