I used to buy the egg whites from egnation.co.uk and liked using them but they were a pain in the ass because they came frozen and you had to stash them all in the freezer, they were a bit bulky. Also, you HAD to make sure someone was in to take delivery otherwise they could go off if left in the parcel depot for a day or so. I've since been using the ones from myprotein.co.uk, they are not frozen and can last up to 5 months at room temperature if left unpoened. They're all pasturised etc. so your chances of catching samonella should be almost zero.

I used to take in 12 per day mixed in milk, I made fantastic gains, I am a big advocate of them.

I know that most will disagree but, if you buy from a trusted manufacturer, your chance of catching salmonella or avian influenza is not more than getting struck by lightning. Pasteurisation process takes lots of needed enzymes out of equation so it is not good as the 'real' thing.

i did have raw eggs 5 a day for a year, then I learnt not all the protein is absorbed, so i cook my eggs (light scrambled) normaly 5 or 6 egg whites and 1 or 2 yolks.

I would be interested in anyone out there who can positively say they DID get salmonela - confirmed by a doc from eating raw eggs.

I totally agree with that.
As far as not all of the protein being absorbed, I disagree, when you cook an egg you denature the protein, so raw egg should be absorbed better, I certainly found this to be the case.

i find raw eggs great , seem to be easily enough asborbed , i drink them with orange or apple juice and it takes the really raw egg taste off them
What are the most palitible ways to take in raw eggs? mixed into a flavoured milkshake / protein shake?

I was just going by info based on scientific research, seriously dont think theres anything wrong with light scrambled eggs, cornelius parkins told me to have them light scrambled too, Maybe it doesnt matter??
also you saying cooking denatures the protein, what do you think happens when you cook chicken, steak, fish, you cant eat everything raw
Maybe Dr Hazban can shed more light on what is prefered?

Cooking anything denatures protein, I am not saying this is an issue, I do not believe it is, but eating an egg raw would be better IMO than cooked, or at least as good.
Also, I could drink 12 eggs per day in milk, but I could not eat 12 scrambled a day, plus my other food.

Very true Matt, I couldnt eat 12 eggs but would find it easier to drink 12 raw eggs, Tosser on the matter of the yolk which is classed as high cholesterol, im not too sure on this matter, i know the yolk is meant to be mostly dietary cholesterol and not the bad type, but then some people advice against too much yolk,
in the end i duno which to believe, and rather be safe so just eat the egg whites and 1 yolk a day

Are most ppl talking about raw egg whites here or whole eggs raw....If I drink them then the whole shebang goes into the mixer, yolk, the lot...
If there british quality then there should be no prob as to be british passed I think they all have to be vaccinated against salmonella.
The debate on protein not being absorbed etc can be argued all day long, just get em down and see what they do for the individual on a personal level.

You have to eat the whole thing, egg white is shit protein, the aminos in the yolk are different and compliment the white to make a complete protein, the fat the yolk is also good.

I remember drinking raw eggs after watching Rocky and they were fucking horrible. Maybe I could try mixing them into some skimmed milk or summat...

When they take 3 mins to cook, why risk it?

There is no risk with British quality eggs. I have 3 every morning.
Trust me, I'm a doctor!

As said above, eating eggs as a meal is fine, but if you want them as additional cals, nutrients, then drinking them allows you to get more down.
Over the years, I have drank hundreds, and never had any kind if issues.

Doc hasbun,
what about the colesterol from 3 eggs a day - would you see that as a problem ? or do you take statins?

The yolks will push your colesterol up i was tested by a group of sports scientists a while back and they found i had the highest colesterol level ever recorded by the NHS ! i scored 12.11 on the rictor scale :( the trouble is the NHS does not take into account athletes they just want a simple test that can be used by basicly untrained staff .
I was taking 3 dozen raw eggs in protien shakes a day but after i removed the yolks my colesterol dropped to 6.8 in about three days however there are two other factors never taken into consideration one is that athletes who are involved it regular explosive movements increase their colesterol naturaly due to it being the energy source used in that activity and secondly there is something in the yolk that helps prevent plaque sticking to the artery wall.

Just started drinking them myself. There are a couple of ways to test the condition of the egg I believe, I tend to put them in a pan of salted water to make sure the shell is intact, then I inspect the yolk as I put them into my glass. I just have 3 large eggs (200g) mixed with half a pint of milk after every work-out, it feels really natural and healthy!

Raw eggs are not absorbed as well as cooked ones, see http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/128/10/1716
Further, if you do wish to eat raw eggs I would suggest whole ones as uncooked egg whites contain a protein called avidin, which depletes levels of biotin in the body. Yolks however are a good source of biotin so the effect "cancels out".
I would never advise 36 raw eggs a day like the nutcase (:D) above, I dont think I'd be able to neck that anyway. However I would never delibarately throw away a yolk as they contain a lot of vitamins minerals and good fats. Certainly a 5-6 egg omlette a day will not do you any harm.

Mixing pausterized egg whites with raw eggs maybe a solution.

3 eggs a day is absolutely fine and shouldn't push up your cholesterol significantly. I'm fairly good about not eating fried food and the red meat I buy is lean. I grill or stir fry most of my food.

It is Ronald McDonalds fault, not chickens'... :D
High cholestrol and related deaths -almost always- are results of fast food and shitty lifestyle/food choices, not a few eggs.

Fried foods and fatty meats are great as long as you get the right ones (and dont combine them with silly amounts of carbs).
So long as you fry things in saturated fat, anchor butter, coconut oil... it will be fine as they are stable at high temperatures. Frying in poly or monounsaturated oils (sunflower, vegetable, olive) will result in hydrogenation which I'm sure you know is not good.
I buy organic beef mince (grass fed where possible) and its about 17% fat, practically the same price as the extra lean meats and a whole lot tastier, with all the added calories.
Saturated fat does not increase cholesterol on its own (rather it is the combo of saturated fats, and refined carbs).

Poach them in boiling water = no mess, and if you want to be SUPER anal about it poaching with a soft centre is the best way to cook eggs as it deactivates the avidin and doesnt allow the fats in the yolk to oxidise :)
