I know this is going to sound silly but is it possible for a human being to bench press 1 ton?
i know half a ton has been smashed in other lifts, dont know about bench press though.
Just been thinking about it today and wanted to know what you guys think.:icon_ton:

The best bench recorded is 1010lbs by Ryan Kenally I believe.

Maybe with future equipment/drugs/progression it is possible but not now to my understanding.

I get the feeling this thread will start a raw vs equipped discussion again, hah!

Of course it is - but not in the Earth's gravitational field. That's why "ton" reads "not" backwards. "Mugabe " backwards spells E Ba Gum, by the way, hinting at his Yorkshire roots.

One day in far future, yes! 1 ton bench seems impossible to me(300 kg also ), but 1 ton squat will be done.
Powerlifting is a cult sport and most of the people didn't even heard about it. If someday it can attract crowds(a big IF) and have creme de la creme(freak of the freaks?) of the genetic pool, with the support of equipment, one man will/can do it.
I watched a 14 years old kid squatting 250 kilos deeep on the net, and once saw a guy who weights fat free 190 kilos -never touched a weight or did pyschical labor in his life time-.
That day -of course- powerlifting will be a freak show, much like IFBB of today.

I duno, i would have thought that the bones in a human arent strong enough to with stand the weight of one ton. I would have thought they would snap like twigs.

i think you are all mad to think someone will squat 1000kgs/1 ton, never mind bench it. lol

im a big fan of "Human strength holds no boundaries" but lets be real here :)

It seems unthinkable to me too but until Dr.Terry Todd squatted 350 kilos at SHW's everyone thought it was impossible too(maybe there can some choronogical mistake but you get the context). Look at to the first prototype suits or flimsy shirts(giving just 5-15 kilos) and what they are now...

Who was this? Some 8' tall acromegalic giant?

7'+ exactly. :D Biggest human being i ever saw. More of a freak rather than a acromegalic.

PFFFT I am gonna bench a ton next workout, close grip un-racking the bar myself, 10 reps paused on chest with two purple bands. Not such a big deal, just didn't want to embarrass you guys and your puny benches.

please...i arm curl that weight.

but on a serious note: bar's cannot even withstand that sort of weight on the collar. and the bar's atm are the best of the best, cannot see them changing a whole lot over the next few years. they've barely changed over the last 50..

1000kgs is not possible by the human body! you will not see that lifted in your lifetime! no bloody way. certainly not in the bench press.

There are probably people that are still alive now that saw 500lbs being benched and thought 1,000lbs would never be lifted. In addition, they said 1,000lbs is not possible, certainly not in the bench. I'd like to see the raw bench and squat records being pushed up to 1,000lbs. I'm sure there's a man who can deadlift 1,000lbs raw in the near future. Maybe this fella will squat 1,000lbs with just knee wraps and a belt, who knows?

I remember reading once about a person who lifted a lorry trailer off an injured child following a road accident. The trailer was said to have weighed several tonnes. This may be one of those urban myths, but at the time it raised the question of whether a human's (in)ability to lift very heavy weights was more psychology than physiology.

I believe the pink spandex fucks up the auto exposure...

Thought if it was tight enough it would give you some support.
