View Full Version : Tiger Woods. Benching 200kg??

A golfer mate of mine claims that Tiger Woods can bench press 200kg. Now I'm finding this very hard to believe. I think I've watched enough powerlifting to know what a 200kg raw bench presser looks like (chest thickness, delts and tris) and Tiger possesses none of these qualities! I've done a quick internet search and understandably there's very little about this genius golfer's bench pressing prowess. One site claims that he can bench 300lbs (approx 135kg) as a 1rpm and that he regularly uses 240lbs in training for reps, but that's it. I think I can just about believe those numbers as he is a professional athlete after all.
Unless this guy has the fast twitch fibres of a freak, I just can't see a 190lb golfer benching 200kg. I'm ready and willing to eat my words though!
So what do you think? Can Tiger bench 200kg?

no he cant but heard Tiger Woods has a decent bench press though so maybe the 135kg is true

200kg! get outta here!
A person that devotes all his time in golf can bench press 200kg which most powerlfiters aim their whole lives to achieve find that hard to believe.
I do realise that golfer's weightrain as well but it will be 'extra' training for them.
Anyway I bet the 135kg is done with bad form too. You know what it's like with bench claims.

I know that tiger does a hell of alot of weight training. In fact until he came along no one ever did any.
As far as the 200kg bench goes i think thats a load of shit.
135kg maybe though. Think we need to search youtube.

No i follow golf and during the open last year his trainer said on the golf channel he reguarly benches 250 pounds. He lifts three times a week, runs every morning, bikram yoga twice a week and practises about four hours a day used to be longer but prefers the quality over quantity approach now and he plays less tournaments than anyone else in the top twenty. The man is a machine and great athelete, and if he focused am sure he would be good at any sport he tried. just sounds like another "i know a bloke who can lift such and such blah blah blah":) i always reply but can you

113.3kg is a bit more believable and it doesnt state whether a bar or machine i have had people come in and claim 400lb bench presses and its turned out to be on a universal machine which most the people on here could probly do with one arm , i think seeing is believing personly , i got one guy here everyone tells me can bench 260kg (raw) thats certainly not what i see happening through my office window nothing like it in fact its embarasing to watch even

200lbs maybe, but not 200kg! I can believe 300lbs.

i,m with most of you lot. i think a 135kg bench would be acheivable by a top class athelete yes. but 200kgs might be over enthusiastic! although it is possible! if it is realistic then it is possible to achieve!!!

A 135kg bench has been achieved by a lot of low-class non-athletes. I've seen Mario Van Peebles benching 315lbs for goodness sake!
Anyway, forget Tiger Woods, Rez Cameron used to boast to me about squatting 500lbs and I once heard Dalton Grant claim 300kg!

It's 200lb for sure. I once had a guy tell me a story about how some fella loaded 500kg on a bar and squatted for 3 reps - I assumed he was being honest though a little confused with the lb/kg thing.
200Lb for a golfer is ok I guess - more than most of the asswipes can do in my commercial gym hell (unless there are 2 spotters helping the guy do 1/4 reps)

Of course he can't do 200 kilos. That's even more than Bruce Willis managed in "Unbreakable", ffs.

No, basically, just no. He can't.
I have prviously heard this quoted as 300 pounds, 136.3 kg.
Was a bit sceptical even about that seeing as he's not a huge guy and weightlifting would be only a supllementary part of his training.
I guess 300 lbs is possible though. Possible, but annoying, seeing as he's a golfer and I'm still a million miles away from that kind of weight.

Hi guys, been lurking for a little while, time I started posting now!
Up here in the cold north - orkney - hoping to compete this year, last and only comp was in 95 and bombed on the squat! Haven't trained consistently for about 10 years either but going for it now!
Anyway, back on topic - a quick google found this link...

Still doesn't clarify the matter though

Quote from article:
"Tiger's personal trainer estimated Tiger Woods bench press (1 REP MAX) to be around the 300 pound mark."
So he hasn't even done 300lbs it is just a bloody estimate.

I once heard Dalton Grant claim 300kg!
No doubt he's UNRACKED 300kg and held it on his back, still in the squat stands.
I regularly train at the same gym at the same time as he does and have seen him unrack 250kg+. Then he missed the stands and almost did some serious damage.

Tiger could up his bench from 200lb to 201lb with the use of my Inzer HD :D
and I reckon Tiger just might be able to squeeze into that shirt.
I regularly train at the same gym at the same time as he does.
Ask him if he remembers me.
I once had a threesome with Fatima Whitbread and Judy Oakes. He'll know who you're talking about.

Can someone explain the bruce willis 200kgs comment - no way he can bench 200kgs.....if so I'm going to jump off a bridge right now........ Tiger would need to do some bulking up to hit 300kgs - it's logic, look as his size, then look at the size of men that can lift that weight......says it all really

:D:D Bruce Willis can't bench 200 kg, mate. Get back from the parapet! In the film "Unbreakable" (as opposed to the Westlife song) the character played by Bruce Willis benches (I think) 350 pounds in one scene - supposedly proving that he's super-strong and unbreakable.

Hello All, my first post this is.
When ever anyone says this kind of thing to me I always wonder what their motivation is, I mean who really gives a shit what Tiger Woods can bench.
Its A bit like the bloke down our gym who keeps harping on about how he personally seen Ronnie Coleman squat 6 reps with 340kg(8plates a side) and points at me in my squatsuit and wraps and says "and he wasn't wearing any of that shit"

Martin - Thanks mate, I live to lift another day!!!!
Dave - I respond as I like to know what people are lifting for many reasons, not to say "ha I'm stronger than you" etc but to make sure that I'm where I should be, it's also usefull to know because if someone is lifting more than you, then you could ask for help on how to achieve what they lift......

In the film Unbreakable, Bruce Willis plays a guy who finds out he's a sort of superhero. He discovers his super strength while bench pressing a whole lot of weight in the garage. As to how much, I can't recall. People say it was around 350 lbs (160kg).

next time you see this guy, remind him of the DVD "cost and redemtption" where ronnie DOES squat 340, and DOES goes up to 360, what he failed to see was that ronnie DID actually get into a squat suit and wraps and only doubled it
i hardly think ronnie coleman suddenly got so strong that he didnt need the aid of suit and wraps. this man is lying his arse off.
