Shelf life of protein

Once opened, how long can a tub of protein powder be left for? I'm looking at getting a 10lb tub as this works out very cheap, but I won't be using it particularly quickly.

How longs a bit of string ?

depends on how much air gets to it and room tempreture , if you empty it into a plastic bag and replace back into the tub you can squeeze the air out and put a wire or plastic tie on the bag and store in a cool place , mine can last a year or more that way as i still have stuff Trevor Smith gave me from 2001 and its still just about usable.

I was given some whey protein whilst on holiday this summer. The tub was in the back of a cupboard, so relatively cool, dark and dry. The tub was a few years old but was fine.
Check the expiry date, one or two years is absolutely fine if it's stored in a cool dry place.

i thinkt he 2 year shelf life only applies if the foil is covering the top of the tub
