Hello, I am Tom, 21yrs old.
Trained for a year Apr 04 to Apr 05, then pretty much no training until June this year.
My first year of training was polluted by crap, (flex etc). Its only since June '07 that I've had a 'real' plan.
BW is about 82kg.
Lifts are about - Squat - 5 @ 130kg (full depth)
Bench - 5 @ 107kg (attempt @ 109 next monday)
Deadlift - 5 @ 163kg (almost 2x my BW :D).
Being doing 5x5 Bill Starr type thing for bout 9 weeks.
Thinking bout competing at powerlifting. Might want to get a better total first. My estimated total based on my 5RM's wud be somewhere between 430kg and 460kg. I would prefer a total of 500kg or just under.

Hi tom,
first of all wellcome to this forum, you can compete in the bdfpa just hurry up to get a licence and join a qualifier. Your bench press is good, you have to improve your squat and your total will go up quickly!

Is my squat poor you think? Should it be closer to my deadlift?
Thank you for the warm welcome. :)

IMO, if you wanna get into powerlifting you'll have to concentrate on squat and deadlift I mean Squat=1.5 BP=1 DL=2 180/120/240 total 540.

Ah ok.
When I've finished 5x5 Bill Starr routine, what would be best to do next for deadlift? I would love to pull 500lbs within next year or something.

Tom,
Your lifts are good enough to be able to enter a comp. Look up the next comp in your area with the Federation that suits you and go for it.
The whole thing about competing is that it fuels your progress in itself - once you've got the bug you'll be away.
Think about getting in with some experienced powerlifters in your area - there's really no substitute for this. You'll need to start thinking about equipment too, perhaps having done your first comp.
Good luck.

Hi Tom (good name) and welcome to the site. Pork Pie has made an excellent post for a change.
Where are you based? We'll sort you out with some good lifters to train with and then you can take it from there.
Cheers,
Tom

I'm in Bradford, west yorkshire.
I usually train alone, with no personal trainers. Spotters are rarely available. So it would be much better to have a few training partners.

tom you should really try to get somewhere where there are some others to help out somewhere where there are proper bars and weights, and like porky says have a go.

Go to the Bradford Uni gym, it's where I started powerlifting. Send a PM to Jabba from this site for more info.

Tom (no not you fat Tom :p) The Bradford uni is a good place to train. We have competing PL'ers and some damn good OL'ers down there. Main training nights are Mon, Wed, fri and usually Tue. We get a lot of newcomers to PLing with the annual influx of students. The gym is cheap at £100 per year and is the usual non pretty, smelly little sweatbox but it has everything you need.
If the idea of the uni appeals, gimme an email. We will help in any way we can.

You'd be mad to turn down an offer like that from a top, experienced powerlifter. Or from Jabba:D:p:D:p:D
