Yeah, you should have watched it yesterday, Dominic Filiou was on it. He's 6.6 205kg or something like that. Thickest dude I've ever seen and I have trained with Andy B :D

P.S. James is myprotein.co.uk your site? I'm after some "Fead 'n' Lean"...can you can any? (Cheap of course)

he is one big boy that dominic fellow. i have trained with mr geoff capes and his son lewis several times. i used to be a strongman coach for years. there is alot of tactics involved in the sport not just brute strength. anyone remember mr mark higgins? 6ft 11. one hell of a big guy!

Mark felix, but he aint the best d'lifter in the world, think mr b.would have something to say about such a statement.

Yes that comment about best deadlifter in the world annoyed me too.

Why are strongmen allowed to hitch the deadlifts and us powerlifters not!? Hahaha

And they can use straps, what rediculous cheaters! lol

One thing I noticed yesterday is that 4/5 of the guys squatted in a belt and wraps but the guy that won it was wearing some titan briefs. That surely isn't fair. You'd think if it was legal they would all be wearing them.

Unfortunatley, the rules in Strongman Change from Comp to Comp and never seem to be the same, there are no REAL federations, ( I know there is IFSA ect ) but nothing at grass roots. Most strongman comps in this country dont allow straps and suits. And there is ALWAYS shit loads of moaning and bitching.
Mark Felix is a good deadlifter, but terry hollands managed a 400kg deadlift the other day at his gym in kent.

As for tactics, it's all about the tactic's and tech in this game, Colin Bryce ( One of the commentators )was on the british Olympic Bobslay team, then went over to strongman and got to the finals of Britains Strongest man late 80's early 90's , and although being tall , isn't the biggest of guys.

I can understand why the comments about Mark being the best DL'er in the World would piss a few people off. I have to say he is one hell of a strong deadlifter and for repetitions he is incredible!! I would love to see Mark max out just purely to see what he could do!! I have heard some claims of massive weights but I'm yet to see it!! I'm not calling him a liar just haven't seen it!! He seems to really excel when you get these weird deadlifts from strange heights and also when they are done with side handles.

I was pulling 390x1 and 370x3 when I went WSM and Mark beat me by 3 reps in the final of WSM on the deadlift, so I would say the claims of 450 etc are a little far fetched!!

On a side note I'll be attempting 410 in training today!

Yeah 450kg might be a little bit out of his reach.
Good luck with the 410kg pull Terry, you have made some amasing progress.

One thing that made me giggle during the first heat was when "the other" commentator alongside Colin Bryce said about one contestant that "those big long arms won't help him much here" - just as he was about to deadlift LOL!

That said, it looks like it was a great comp this year, I like the "making of" programme too, I just wish it could have stayed on BBC1 as it would have probably got more coverage there.

Good luck with the 410 Terry!

Terry - First off, good luck with the lift. Second - is it true that you once played for Harlequins?? I have heard round the stoop that you did?

Mark's started training at Adlington Barbell under the tutelage of Alan Fairclough. Reports are he was a bit "untrained" in deads, so you have to factor that into the equation. I hate to think what he'll be doing this time next year once Alan's had him for a year. I'm guessing the 400+ plus reports relate to strongman-style lifts, probably with a higher starting position and/or using side handles. But I reckon he'll be good for a 400+ "official" deadlift before long.

Quite a decent quality of poster on this thread, btw! Sorry to take the average down!

Coloured would be red, or green, or blue, for example. Mark Felix is black.

World's Strongest Man (Sport)
Time - 20:00 - 21:00 (1 hour long)
When - Friday 4th January on five
Martin Bayfield presents more from the strongman competition. It is the moment of reckoning for the ten finalists in this year's competition. English hopes rest with Mark Felix and Britain's Strongest Man Terry Hollands, but can anyone stop Mariusz Pudzianowski from seizing a fourth World's Strongest Man crown?

Just watched it - Terry was awesome - just needs to work on that Safe lift ;)

What can you say about Pudzianowski - he is incredible. To come back like he did from last year and win with an event to spare is an amazing achievement. Mind you, I hope Terry has something to say about Pudz winning title number 5 :)

strongmen is alot about tactics as well as being strong. knowing when to push yourself and knowing when to save it are very important. and as for the comments on the briefs etc. it amazes me that some strongmen do not dress right when doing some of the events. it is ovious that wearing the correct apparrell for the dedicate dtask can make a difference. in strongman you gota be brutal to survive!!
