The EliteFTS ones are extortionately expensive to get sent to the UK, and I cannot seem to find anywhere in Europe that sells a decent pair of these. I'm also after the extenders so i can use them for squatting.

Cheers Hellspawn! That was very useful
Are these the ones you have? http://www.voimaharjoittelu.net/weight-releasers-for-squatting-p-166.html
So they can they be shortened for benching as well (the description says for squats)?
How much postage approx did you pay? I cant find delivery costs on the site.

no you want these ones
http://www.voimaharjoittelu.net/weight-releasers-p-365.html
they say they are for bench press but they do both now bench & squat , they dont weigh much so postage will not come to much , i buy a load of stuff at a time so dont know the exact price.

Those vids make me want to get a pair of these all the more! :)
Soz if i'm being a thick dick here, but the website says "This new model will fit for both squat and bench press", yet it still shows 2 seperate models (and 2 seperate prices) for the bench press and squat ? :-?

those weight releases look a bit dodgy to me, like in the vid where one full of but the other didn't surely greater possiblity for injury?

TBH, with the crappy weight i squat, if this happened it probably wouldnt cause much of an issue anyway :)
Genreally with weight releasers, you only add about 10% of the bar weight on to them, so they wouldnt cause a drastic change in weight if one fell off - i.e you could probably still re-rack the bar wihout an issue.

whats the general purpose for them?

They enable you to work the eccentric part of the lift with a heavier load than the concentric part. This has a number of benefits:
- It gets you used to being able to support a heavier load than what you might not necessarily be able to fully lift at the time.
- It gives you extra muscle stimulation on the eccentric phase. The exccentric phase is where the muscle can produce the most force, so adding extra weight eccentrically really overloads the muscle fibres and ramps up neural input into the muscles.
- It allows you to develop 'pop' out of the hole. This is because when the extra weight is released at the bottom, all of a suddenn your muscles go from producing the required force against the bar AND the weight releasers, to producing excessive force against the bar alone. This should make you shoot out of the hole pretty quick.

very interesting, in a way i guess its a bit like the opposite to using bands.

they are usefull for getting someone who never breaks parrallel out of the habbit as you know when your deep enough the releasers drop off but if you get it wrong then you have to come back up with the extra weight till you get it right :) the videos were taken when we first got them and in Andy Csisars case he hadnt got a clue tbh he put too larger plate on them and had them too far in on the bar so they clipped the bottom of the monolift one side , later you see i had replaced them with a smaller diameter 10kg plate and it worked fine

Hi mate
your more than welcome to pop over here any time open 10am every day
yes all the vids and photo's are taken here there is more kit in this place than i have seen any where else and a lot more specialist stuff kept hidden in my office where the nobheads cant get hold of it its for powerlifters use only.
there are only five of us powerlifters here all hold some sort of title or other and we can cater for any federation , we also have most of the strongman events kit as well.

When the right hand weight releaser did not drop from the bar on my squat it is cos i didnt hit depth. Second attempt when i did hit it they worked 100%.
