Hi there, I'm completely new to this all (posting on forums and powerlifting!), I haven't started powerlifting yet but I go to the gym to train to improve my strength for submission wrestling and also just for fun!

When I'm in the gym I train the deadlift, the squat and the bench press (as well as a lot of of other things) and have been doing so for a while. I have become interested in powerlifting because I do like to perform these lifts and was wondering if it was worth entering a competition or something. I'm just wondering if at my standard (which is VERY low judging by all the lifts I hear that all you lot can do!) it would even be worth entering. Anyway, enough of that, here are my stats at the moment. All my lifts are raw cos I don't have a belt or wraps yet;

Age: 19
Weight: 65kg
Squat: 120kg x 3 (quite deep squats I think)
Bench: 90kg x 2
Deadlift: 170kg x 3

Sorry for the random rep numbers, I just don't usually max out but go for three reps instead. I have a video of me squatting last october before I met an olympic lifter guy who converted me to ATG squatting. Would this squat be legal in a competition? I was at around 60kg at that time.

Any replies, criticism, help anything is very welcome! Thanks!

Sorry to post again, but the thing wouldn't let me edit my original post. Just wanted to know if chalk is used for a lift is that lift still considered a raw lift? I used chalk to help me with that deadlift PB 'cos I just can't hold the weight without it slipping otherwise...

Thanks again!

Welcome Kizer! I'm a novice, but your squat looked deep enough mate. Looks like you have a good basis of strength for you weight. Chalk is allowed, raw is (usually)considered to mean no suits, bench shirts, wrist or knee wraps. Might be worth finding a powerlifter /powerlifting coach near you if you are interested in competing. All the best.

Welcome to the site.

The squat is good. Chalk is also permitted in powerlifting.

Feel free to ask questions and contribute to the general chit chat.

I would encourage you to enter a comp, as soon as possible (perhaps go and watch one first to get an idea of what goes on) - its great fun, great experience and more than anything is motivating to your training.

Watch out if anyone offer to buy you dinner on here, its becoming a regular occurence for some reason...

Hi mate, yea, get training and enjoy the bollocks thats often talked in the forum , you wont find one more jam packed with experienced lifters, have a look for any comps in the near future.

Not sure where you live but the british unequipped powerlifting championships is on at the start of sept and would be great to go watch for motivation etc

Hey bud, welcome to the site.

It full of useful info and as Boar said, a lot of bollocks too. If you want to know about training just stick up a question and you always get some experienced lifters willing to help you out.

Good squat vid too, plenty deep, keep up the hard work!

thanks for all the replies, I'm looking forward to gearing my training more towards increasing my strength in the powerlifts soon. I'm goin on holiday in 2weeks time, and I plan to begin some serious training when I return!

Someone mentioned something about an unequipped competition? If I do compete I would probably prefer to compete unequipped because I don't think I'm so much into buying bench shirts and squat suits n all that quite yet... I live in London, where is this competition? if its relatively local I would quite like to go down and watch how a competition works n just get an overall feel for things.

Cheers

Whereabouts in London do you live? You could come to Genesis Gym (postcode HA0 1EF) for a session and you could come and watch the BPC UK Open on 30th September. Not 100% sure where it is, but it will probably be NW London (Alperton/Wembley area?)

I live in south London so its quite a bit of a mission I think. I would like to go to any powerlifting competition I can really just to get some experience of things.
