Hi everyone, I'm Rob and I'm new on this site and new to training at Genesis.

I've just moved in to the area because I got a new job. I was wondering which of you guys here train at Genesis. I'm looking to get started in powerlifting (not really very powerful though) and I thought it'd be good to introduce myself to a few people.

I've already met Bulldog briefly and he seems like a friendly guy - will take him up on his offer of advice on a pl routine when I'm ready to start a new training cycle.

Hello mate and welcome to the site. The following train at Genesis....

Jonnie Kiss (only on site now and then), Steve Middleton (not on site), Ian (Cube), Steve Plunkett(Plunkster), Lee (Little lee), Bulldog (obviously), Tom (Cuntos) and Me (Lloyd).

Sometimes we have guest appearances from Del, Kev Smith, Mike J, Mick (from Birmingham) and just about everyone else at some point or another!!

Come and say hello - we only bite if heavy squatting!

You will just have to try and get in with those boys and train along lol i am pretty sure 20 rep squats arent used or cutting for that matter!

05-23-2007, 10:09 PM
yea, i guessed the word "cut" may be banned on this board.

20 rep squats will prob end pretty soon.

as my posts suggest though i have been a bit confused as to whether i want2 follow a solely powerlifting or more bb style of training.

prob is i just get 2fat when i'm gaining decent strength for pl

The schedule is something like...

Saturday morning (9.30ish) Bench
Tuesday night (4.30ish) Squat and Deadlift
Thursday night (4.30ish) Assistance work
Friday night (8pmish) Beer and kebab.

If you do come and train with us you will never do 20 rep squats again! Normally stick to 8's, 5's and 3's but probably a much heavier weight than you are used to i.e tonight was 230kg x 5. Next week will probably be 300kg (probably for sets of 3).

In about September I think Bulldog is planning to run a competition - that will be a good one for your first go!

yea, I'm not too upset about the idea of giving up 20 reppers.

Gained a lot of strength and some mass.

Never done more than 100k for 20 (105 for 17) so yea, 8's, 5's and 3's would be quite a change.

never really tried heavy singles at all because haven't trained for it.

Will check with bulldog& co on the sept comp date - could be just about right time for me to have gained enough strength to not totally embarrass myself

I've trained at genesis a few times, but i wouldn't say i'm a regular. Probably been down about 5 or 6 times, once every couple of months on average.

Bulldog's been a MASSIVE help, and the gym really does have everything you'll ever need to use if you want to compete.

No idea bulldog. I might come down in a few weeks time after Oli Gilbert has done his competition with Mr Kobra in Denmark (First week of June).

I'm gonna have a bit of a play with the strongman stuff. Do you know how much the tyre weighs? I just looked at it, got scared, then ran back inside.

What do you have to do to get a red bulldog t-shirt? Are they available to buy or do you have to lift some respectable numbers?

bulldog, will you be holding a comp in september? will it be a bpo/bpc or will it be just a comp for the sake of a comp?

bulldog
05-25-2007, 08:44 PM
it is bpc open for guys not in top 3 at british hoping to get a lot of guys from other feds compeating also 1st qualifier for british

rwgm103
05-25-2007, 08:59 PM
Is there a qualifying standard?

Am a total novice and unlikely to be able to make even a low qualifying standard but am keen to enter a comp so I have something to train for - so I break my PB's and learn a bit in the process.

It is an open competition which means anyone can enter regardless of experience/totals. In fact this is the competition that encourages beginers so will be perfect for you. I would imagine the only thing required will be BPC membership.

cool, sounds good as a first comp, will look into BPC membership and the like

i would lift raw, if its an equiped comp i can still lift raw cant i?

Lloyd
05-26-2007, 04:33 PM
You can lift however you like. Its about getting some experience and finding out just how different a comp is to training in the gym!! The amount of people who come out for their bench and bomb on weights they can easily do in the gym is amazing. What you have to take into account is how tired you are after squatting, length of the pause on the chest, nerves, dehydration (especially if you struggled to make weight) etc etc...

At the south east there were a couple of guys lifting in a singlet and belt only, so i should think it's fine

Trained last night and was good to meet Lloyd, Never Satisfied and others.

Got some useful advice on my deadlfting technique - thanks for that loyd.

Looking forward to the end of my weight-loss craziness when I will hopefully start to lift some decentish weights.

Good to meet you yesterday Rob. I'm Tom by the way.

I'd just like to apologise for the fact that me and Lloyd took our t-shirts off when we were deadlifting (only cos Stumpy and Plunkster did it first). Please don't let it stop you from coming back to Genesis; I've never done it before and almost certainly won't do it again (not sure about Lloyd though)!

Can I have that in writing before I join you for deadlifts next week Tom?

Yep, good to meet you too Tom. I've already noticed considerable ammounts of flesh being exposed at Genesis - mostly by the hardcore bbers.

Bit of partial nakedness was all in a good cause I'm sure. Anyway, I'm off to join the BPC (hopefully not the British Potato Club :-?)

It wasn't as bad when we were stood tall sucking our guts in but at the bottom of the lift when you force the gut into the belt.....yuck!!!

Rob,

I think you wimped out on the deads and will easily pull 180 - 200kg soon.....

That's really encouraging Lloyd! A raw double bodyweight (at least) deadlift at this September comp would be a great start to my powerlifting.

Squat 140 I hope and bench....maybe 110 (I know it's much harder with the pause etc but I'm reasonably confident).

Would like to lift raw untill I've developed a reasonable amount of strength.

Would be interested to squat with u guys sometime.

did 20 reppers again today by the way :D. They're gonna stop as soon as i've finsihed de-bulking.

Well we squat Tuesday night but are building for a comp at the moment so not normal training. However, there is nothing wrong with training at the same time on the other rack - you will get plenty of support.

Bench on Sunday? About 10am.

Steven - was good to train with you yesterday. Your squatting is pretty impressive at your bodyweight. What are you hoping to squat at the British and are you still going to lift at 56k?

What are you looking for in your other lifts as well? Is a triple bodyweight deadlift going to be on the cards any time soon?

I will be in the 56kg I can't see myself going over that weight until the contest. Hoping to squat at least 120kg. would be happy with that.

Bench looking for 77.5kg but may not even get that.

Triple bodyweight dead is not far off but I am planning to try to put on weight after contest so may never get it after-all.

I might be down on friday or sat around 12-5ish (no, not 5hrs straight, i'll be in for 1-2hrs during one of those times) if anybody wants to train.

NS - you're one strong bastid for a 56kg young guy that's only started powerlifting - doing well over 2x bw. is this raw? you're hitting PRs all the time.

All raw. Never been in a powerlifting suite.

Although I must say last week when i done squat 115kgx3 was the first time i used a belt.
