Hi,
Im new to this powerlifting thing and have my first compitition on the 18th march... Having never been to one im looking for advice and tips if anybody can help?
aaahhh, is it the BPC in windsor ?
lovely avatar pose btw....
get a good solid first lift in and enjoy the day !!
the atmoshpere will give you more than you think (it did for me anyhoo) so when choosing lifts go on how you feel at the time and what you remember doing in the gym
what are your best lifts and what are you hoping for ?
good luck

As a rule of thumb i open with a weight i can do a fairly hard double with, or maybe even triple. 2nd lift might be something i can barely do for 1 rep, and my final lift will usually be a small PR attempt.

Few tips (many apologies if they seem overly basic!):
1) all of above regarding openers and enjoyment....most important
2) watch a comp first to see what it flows like
3) get a coach to look after you on the day, preferably someone with comp experience
4) DONT try to set the world on fire at your first comp....going 9 for 9 and a tough but achievable total should be the goals
5) read the rule book (again!) before the comp
6) practice comp style lifting in the gym (pause benches, deep squats, locked out/not hitched deads). Get somebody competent to watch and critque you so no shocks on the day. also means that you know timings for getting equipment ready just before lifting etc
7) make sure your equipment is within the rules of the federation you are competing with, belts/leotards/multiple ply suits/knee high socks etc
8) dont change anything major in the last few weeks unless absolutely necessary...no new equipment/food/supplements etc
9) relax and enjoy.....again!
10) take a week off after and then get going for the next one!
Good luck for the comp and pull a big one!

thanks for the tips, the majority of the stuff i hav set in place... the thing that i think im gonna hav a hard time with is gettin my timing wrong before lifts or being in the wrong place at the wrong time! sure it will all go well, just going for the experience more than anything. hope to pick up alot 2mos in windsor ready for sunday in dover!
