I'm not really one for posting my workouts/diets etc., but just got a new raw bench pb tonight and wanted to tell someone (as you do).
162.5 at 97K aged 50. Might not be much for some of you guys, but for an old Johnny-come-lately not too bad. Just need to convert that into shirt lifting now. My comp best is only 180. If I really hit the triceps I should hopefully get close to the BWLA M2 record (currently 190) next February.

Great benching.
Unless it has been beaten recently, the un-equipped British bench record for an M2 at 100 kilos BW is only 138 kilos so you have blown it away.

Nice one Martin. I found that doing an exersise that is a combination of close(ish) floor presses and rack lockouts helped add to my tricep strength. You basically lie on the floor in a power rack with the safety bars more or less half way between your chest and full lockout position and then grip the bar just within the rings. I was doing 5 sets of 3 to 5 reps with a heavy weight and I was allowing the bar to simply drop back down to the safety bars (no effort in controlling it) and then totally relaxing before doing the next rep. I did these after my regular raw bench and I really noticed a difference at the BWLA British Unequipped Bench Press comp.

Thanks for all the comments and the advice. I'll try that Rob, cheers. Finch, I've already got the M2 unequipped record (157.5 in MK this year) but that's effectively a "new" record that takes no account of what lifters did in days gone by. The equipped record is "the" record and that's the one I want. (Latest records are on Ian Hampson's YNE site.)
I've put 10K on my pb since March. I think half of that is natural progression from hard work, but the other half is definitely down to changing to an "elbows-in" technique. This has helped with the lowering phase, takes me naturally lower down on the chest for my touch, and slightly reduces the stroke length. I've also (finally) twigged that "ass down" mean some part of it touching rather than all of it!
