i want to enter a competition next year, august/september time but am not sure where to look, ive looked at the bwla website but my area, south central, doesnt have a website or list of competitions etc. i'm drug free, and unequipped and turn 18 on the 31st aug 07.

another thing is where the cut off date is for me to be able to lift as an u18 rather than a u20/23? and i live in hampshire, any ideas???

BWLA classes Hampshire as part of "South Midlands"! If you go on the British Powerlifting website, there's an email contact for John Porter. Suggest you contact him first. Failing that, Ben Banks will probably be able to steer you in the right direction. His contact details are on the site as well and he's doing a great job bringing BWLA up to date web-wise.

I'm pretty sure that you remain under 18 for the whole of the calendar year on which your 18th birthday occurs. So if you're under 18 on 1st January 2007 and you turn 18 during 2007 you compete as an under 18 until 1st January 2008. Same principle applies to other junior categories.

You don't have to qualify for BWLA regional events, but the cut off for qualification for the British Championships is eight weeks before the event. If you're a member of BWLA you can compete in another region to qualify; just let your regional secretary know that you will be lifting somewhere else.

Hope that helps.
