Next comp is an (equipped) 3 Lift + Bench Only on 29th October at Catt's Gym, Orrell. Contact Ianshaw2@aol.com for more details or pm me.

There's also a Bench Press scheduled for 4th December in Rhino's, Oldham. That will be the final qualifier for the 2007 British Bench Press (normally held first weekend in February).

Cheers John,

Good luck in Birmingham with your first comp. Make all your first lifts safe to get a total - it's a long way back from Birmingham to Preston if you get no-lifted. I've done it myself 2 years ago, to Liverpool - one shitty journey!

If you haven't lifted before, you don't know how the atmosphere will affect you. Nothing better than an easy lift, followed by a round of applause, to give you a buzz for the next 2 lifts. But if you blow the first one, it can really knock your confidence for the next 2. A lightish first bench also gives you the chance to do a really good pause. Remember - your pause will last about a quarter of the time you think it does!

Martin.

I am considering doing this. When is the cut off date for applications to lift?

About 2 weeks beforehand, but let Ian Shaw know asap that you want to lift and he'll get a form to you. Let him know if you're doing three-lift or bench, because they're separate competitions (we have to do it that way or bench presses cannot be considered for records purposes).

Johnny,

Really well done for your first comp. Thought the atmosphere might suit you!! It either lifts you up or drags you down!

You need to be a BWLA member to lift. Go on www.britishpowerlifting.org.uk website and you can download a membership form. Your only problem is that the membership year runs from 1st January to 31st December, so you'll be paying for only 2 month's membership. You could always ask if your new membership could run until the end of 2007. Don't know what the answer will be.

Then just contact Ian Shaw by email to enter. Everyone in the NW Counties is very friendly and encouraging, so it's a great place to start out in competitive lifting.

Just been told that this comp has been cancelled. I know some of you were planning to spectate, but Ian had a very low number of entries and was left with no choice. Let's get everyone in the northwest supporting the December competition in Rhino's, Oldham.

I think the only NW unequipped comp is the qualifier for the British Unequipped and that is normally held at the end of April. The December comp will be a qualifier for the British Equipped, but you can of course lift unequipped at any powerlifting event if you want to.

Please, you NW guys, let's make this the last ever comp that has to be cancelled through lack of support. It's soul destroying for Ian to do all the work to arrange an event only to have to cancel it. So let's see EVERY NW lifter there in December, equipped or unequipped, show the guy some support, and take the sport forward in the NW.

End of sermon... And I was sooo looking forward to meeting JWB. You'll have to come to Orrell one Monday eveing for a play, Johnny.
