Hi everyone, the person formerly known as DMPM here.

I'm 6'2" and 111kg and my best lifts are 212.5/167.5/220 in single ply gear.

Aim is to become THE STRONGEST MAN I HAVE EVER MET. Sorry, had to...

No, the short term aim is 620 by Xmas, which is going to be tough as I'm planning to cut down to 100kg by the end of the year. Hopefully I can keep onto what little strength I have...

Long term (~2 years) aim is to total in excess of 700. I plan to compete in the IPF affiliate when I go back home. And maybe try a BWLA comp (if I'm allowed) here if I get strong enough.

Great session. Box squats were FAST, which is sweet as it's the heaviest part of the wave.

RDLs suck serious balls and made me chuck.

GMs are brilliant if only for the looks you get. There was a Smith machine squatter on the edge of coming over to tell me how to squat properly, I'm sure.

Had a lot of energy today. I will start to deload more often. I also think this CEE is good stuff too...

Tried a new setup on the bench today. Better leg drive and arch. Borderline IPF legal though in terms of foot placement.

Anyway, benches were fast. 110 flew up like 60. Really wanted to go heavier but I have ME on Sunday and no spotter available, so I left it.

Man, my military is PATHETIC. Really embarrased by that. I have to stick to it...

Chins and cleans were tough.

Squats were awesome. 180 is 90% 1RM, so I was planning to 6x1. Did 8 easily. Should point out that my suit is really loose. I can get it on in about a minute. Could've done more, but I wanted to leave some juice in the tank for the rest of the workout.

Rack pulls were done from about 3/4 way up the shin and they were WEAK. This is my sticking point on the deadlift. My non existant hamstring strength really shows up here...

Someone was using the hyper bench, so I started to do some pullthroughs, but they hurt my knees (??) so I stopped and went home. I was shattered.

Fucking good work on the box though...inch under or bang on?

Yeah, probably should've just kept squatting and called it a day! ;)

The "box" is bang on parallel. I will measure it shortly.

I benched 142.5 raw a few months ago mate. Think it'd be a tad higher now.

Oh for fucks sake what's going on. My floor press seems to be way higher than my raw bench. Is the bar far off your chest in a floor press? And where's your normal sticking point on a normal bencH?? thanks.

Dont sweat it dude, it probably means your shirted bench will rock cos you have strong lockout.

Well I think perhaps my lockout is kinda gay, as I have long arms and the bar is quite a bit off my chest. I just seem to die if I have no leg drive or pec recruitment...

Right. First off, I fucking hate DEUB day. Moving girly weights around. Shits me...

Benches were shit. Only a couple of sets were quick. Was having trouble setting up due to soreness from yesterdays session. Military is coming along OK. Couldn't remember if I used 72.5 or 75 last week, so I did 6 sets.

Was planning to do 5x5 on the rows, but two young lads thought they'd strip the row when I strolled off for about 13 seconds to get a drink. Cheers!

Had to take it easy on the treadmill. Knee is feeling a bit clicky and my lower back was sore from yesterday. Feeling quite beat up ATM...

nationals. Thats my aim next year, 600kg raw total at north west open in april/may to qualify in 110kg category - so i wont fatten up above that or the required total jumps up with about 30kg lol!

hey man, get your arse to http://www.sugdenbarbell.co.uk/ forum as well and come join us for a squatting session some sunday! And try to make it to our "gym meet" as well, it should be a good laugh.

Joel Di Battista

Right. Well I will be trying to qualify for the nationals when I go back home, so I guess it does make a difference, but at my height I need to be at least 125 to be remotely competitive...

Pathetic. I should be squatting 220. Totally fucked it up: didn't sit back far enough, looked down and leant forward. Failed about 6" out of the hole. Shit.

BW @ 112kg. After 3 weeks of dieting and cardio, I've lost a massive 0kg. Rockin.

RDL's are coming on ok...

should have taken 210 1st IMO. and lifted with spotters.

You HAVE 220 with some carbs and someone wrapping you and shit and you know it.

Joel Di Battista
10-03-2006, 09:42 PM
Well I did 140x3x3 last time I did RDLs, so tonight was shit as well. I was stuck for time and my grip was toast, so I just did the one set.

Yep. I was way down on carbs today, and squatting equipped alone is a ball ache. I will get 220 soon...

Form and speed on the benches was spot on. Just wish I could do it for ME...

Military was HEAVY. Lower back was toast from the PC work yesterday and my elbows were giving me grief. Still, it's a light weight and I shouldn't be struggling with it.

Couldn't finish my curls because of elbow pain. The ladies are going to be dissapointed.

Struggled with energy today. Dieting not fun.

I've never used chains. I have bands, but I've never used them with floor press. How would you get the bands set up so there is enough tension? The bar is so close to the floor...

Hah! Can't see the plums running my gym letting me leave a stack of chains in there. They don't even like me using chalk and deadlifting....

I once asked if I could leave a fat bar in there and they said no.

You could set up a rack so that the pins stop the bar at exactly the same point as where it does on a floor press. Then press on a bench with flat back and feet up on a bench with bands attatched to DB's or whatever on the floor.

Not ideal but probably the only way in a gym which doesnt have anchors on the floor ala WSB.

I would love to train at a hardcore gym, but:

- My current gym is at my workplace, so it's extremely convienient (I don't have a car) and cheap (£7 a month)
- It has a decent rack, loads of weights and other equipment, so it's not all bad

the bad sessions can be quite integral in the way you can look back to your progress and see what works and what doesnt.

Good Mil's, real heavy lockouts. How were the snatches?

Joel Di Battista
10-15-2006, 07:31 PM
Well it's the first time I've ever done any snatching.

The first few reps were shit - not dipping to catch the weight. The last 3 or 4 were spot on. Only stopped because my shoulders were kaput and my heart was beating like a squirrel on crack.

So I'm not alone! They're great fun aren't they??

I jsut do full power snatches cos I like throwing the weight down from 7 feet and watching it bounce back up!!

The 215 squat was so close btw. It's so there!

Yeah I quite enjoyed them. I would like to do them heavier for less reps, but there is a 50% BW comp going on another forum, so I wanted to see how many I could do.

The 215 squat was so close btw. It's so there!
I know mate. In hindsight I pretty much fucked up everything I could. I will nail 215 and more soon.

Shirted benches felt good for once. Tried tucking the elbows more and throwing the weight back, compared to my raw bench which goes straight up.

Chins suck so badly, I'm such a fatso. Had to abort curls due to elbow pain. If I don't start increasing my bicep work, the women of the world are seriously going to revolt and THEY WILL TAKE NO PRISONERS. Believe it.
