Aah. Now I know who big bob is, I think. Spotting that man on the squat is fucking impossible cos he's a giant! Well done Bob.
Robt: it is as hot as fuck mate. Make sure you take plenty of water boyo.

Thanks for the kind words boys.
Special thanks to Cuntos and the boys spoting me on the squat, I think you prevented a serious injury when I walkabout on my second squat.
Just to reiterate the venue was like an oven today, I went through 10 (yes 10) 500ml bottles of Peckham Springs finest, so as the scouts say "be prepared" tomorrow.

So what happened? Lifts? Results?
Rob Thomas

Well, the plan was to do something like:
Squat: Open on 240 then 260 and try to finish on 280
Bench Press: Open on 200 then 210 and then try for a 220
Deadlift: Open on 250 and take it from there really
Total: was looking for 750+
But I had a few "problems". First off, I had a bad gut and the squirts which resulted in me having to empty my guts 6 times before going on which took it's toll on me and made me feel a bit weakened (even the squat bar on my shoulders was causing pain during the warmups!!!).
As I was the only lifter in my class, I decided to drop my opening squat to 225 instead to make sure I got one in as the judging looked to be very strict on the depth. Anyway, I failed to get the depth for the first 2 attempts but got it on the third. This meant that my plans were shagged now so I was just going to coast through and get a total after that.
I opened on 200 on the bench and it felt ok(ish) so then went to 210 on the 2nd lift and had no chance (I did 210 at the bench comp a few weeks back) so I didn't even bother with a third lift.
I was now feeling ill, hot (it was like a sauna there) and pissed off so I dropped my opening deadlift to 200, lifted it and then pulled out as I'd hit a total - allbeit the lowest total I've EVER done of 625!
Still, luckily for me there was nobody else there to push me so at least I got away with it that time.
One thing's for certain though, I'm going to make sure that every squat I do from now on is ass to grass as I'm never going to fail on depth again - especially with a weight that I usually rep out on in the gym!
Thanks to Justin, Phil and Nick Rees for their support as I'd have probably gone home before even lifting without their help and advice.

Sounds like you had a very shitty day (pun intended) - LOL! :p
At least you made a total mate.
must be a real bummer to fail on depth on the first lift - deffo messing with your mind, ending with you having to vertually sit on the floor to get them whites !!!
did you get a heroic photo with your tyophy ??
lol,200 dead the offski !! you must have been a little pissed off mate !!

Gotta fess up here Rob, I was centre ref for your session. Whilst some people may call me a mean evil nasty sob when reffing (well most people knowing my luck) I can hold my hand on my heart and say for your first two you were defintely high, but for your third you left skid marks. I was also quite surprised when you missed your 2nd bench though, the first one looked really good.
I didn't know you had a problem though, gratz on getting through it with such a problem. Btw, if your interested, it looked like from the ref's chair that you were blocking yourself getting down on the first couple.

Well if the centre ref says your squats were high, then they must've been fucking high, cos he's not best placed to judge minor depth infractions! At least you managed to get your shit together (pun intended again) and follow through (ditto) with a good squat... ;)

To be honest, I would have liked to have squatted a bit wider but I was sub-conciously worried about shitting myself!! The weight felt light but I just wasn't used to squatting that low. I supose it's what you get when you train on your own in your garage - you've got nobody to correct you so it's my own fault.
I've got no complaints about the reffing on my squats, both Justin and Phil told me they were too high after each one but I was a bit miffed as to why I had a red light on my 200 bench from the ref to your right!
Thanks for the info.

I know what you mean about training in a garage. I train in a shed at the bottom of the garden. My one saving grace is that Tracy is an IPF ref as well so I get my butt kicked in training regularly (it still doesnt help some times). Eitehr way with a bad case of posterior porcelain peppering coming out with a total means the day wasn't as crap as it could have been.
As for the red on your 200 bench, haven't the faintest. Looked perfect from my chair otherwise my finger would have fought its way over to the dreaded red button as well.

My view, for what is worth, is that I would rather see an "apparently" good lift failed, followed by an explanation from the referee's, than a bad lift passed. I have seen many lift's passed that to my mind should not have been.
So if the refereeing was mean, as long as it was consistant - well done referees.
