View Full Version : The buffoonery begins anew...
I am now a fully paid up member of Reps Iron Emporium in Preston. They have a cool fingerprint recognition system for members which means I will never forget my membership card. This system is ideal for buffoons and, like attractive teenage refugees from the eastern block, should be more widely adopted :-)
Bench Press, 120kg, 5,5,5
100kg, 5,5
Very disappointed to have to reduce the weight for the last 2 sets, but my Triceps were failing. It was kind of strange, the first 3 reps of every set felt ridiculously easy, but then I would almost fail the 4th and really struggle with the last one.
Overhead Press. The boar wanted to try the seated variety and reps has a tailor made ( actually made by a welder I would imagine, not a tailor at all, unless he is a part time tailor, or a part time welder come to think of it ) contraption for this very purpose. However the bar starts behind your head and I had enormous difficulty getting both hands to the bar, much to Jonny's amusement. When I did finally get hold of the thing I couldn't lower it to my collar bone anyway, I found the seated position very restrictive and bits of me were crashing into various other bits of me. I have the range of motion of a large Spider which has had all it's legs, bar one, pulled off by a nasty little speccy ginger kid with no mates. I knocked out 2 sets of 5 with 60kg in a most unnatural motion, and then had to move to the standing variety, cleaning the bar to my shoulders before pressing. I did another 3 sets of 5, and these were far more comfortable. Once again I was frustrated with the weight, but my left Tricep in particular was totally wiped out and was struggling with lock out. I think we went too quickly from Bench to Overheads, I think we would have done better to take 5 and let the Triceps come round a little.
Close Grip Bench Press, 70kg, 5x5.
This morning in the shower I pumped up to quite ludicrous proportions and couldn't clean my own ass. I now have a curious itching sensation from that general area, but can't do a damned thing about it :-)
Squats on Friday...deep joy.

Lol .. an interesting read Dan apart from this section (see below). No no no :icon_gre: .. I really really didn't need to know this kinda of details!!

PMSL, you'd better have cleaned your nethers befor squats on friday , as you know, i like to spot close.....real real close

Fear not Mike, when the wife is indisposed I have two Rottweilers handy for such occasions :D

awesome looking dogs!
Squats with The Boar.
150kg, 5x5, ass to heels. Once again the weight was easy and the first 3 reps of each set flew up, but then I started blowing, especially the last two sets. I was drenched in sweat and felt like I was gonna have a heart attack !
Smith Machine Hack Squats, 3x5. Jonny said my ass was about 2 inches from the floor, which is good.
Calf Raises, 5x8 with as much as I could handle.
Im really getting concerned about my conditioning. I've piled a load of weight on very quickly and I'm out of breath and sweating before I've done anything at all. The amount of sweat is pretty embarassing in the gym to be honest and this morning I had to get the wife to put my shoes and socks on for me !
I really want to start a bit of moderate cardio but it's probably not the right time yet...I've decided to chase size and strength until Christmas and then look at fitness in the new year, assuming my heart is still beating !
and this morning I had to get the wife to put my shoes and socks on for me:mrgreen:
Aye, and they didn't suit her at all :-)

I really do like reading this journal, it cheers me up no end to know that I am not the only person that sweats gallons just by looking at an olympic bar.
He he, pleased to meet you Finch, I'm the guy from the new Lynx advert :-)
Skipped Monday due to soreness and business...next sesh Wednesday, platform Deads. Hmm...is there a Doctor in the house ?

Dear superhero,
If you need a new lycra outfit, trying typing unitard into the e-bay search and have a look at the goods coming out of the far east, some of them look like they might suit you.
Kind regards,
Finch.
PS: I am thinking about getting the fetching green number. Do you think that they would be acceptable for the BWLA?:)
LOL, sorness eh ?????
dan, now dont get mad....there is another woman .......
no, i did some pl deads last night (i have some 'stuff' to help a mate with tonite)(just computer stuff)
so wed will be onto bench, however if you wanna throw in 5x5 platform deads to catch up the it can be arranged.......let me know and ill bring kenneth along.
love boarski
Mr. Finch, I tried typing Unitard but for some reason could not stop myself typing "retard" every time instead. That brought up some fascinating results, and strangely my name was at the top of every page...
JW, I'm happy to do Bench, Shoulders and Triceps and see what kind of mess I am in afterwards. If I can face deadlifts after that I'll consider it...second thought, I might do 3x5 on Deads, Bench and Presses instead. Let Kenneth have the night off, my belly will be too big for platform deads tonight on account of the 2 Bacon and Egg teacakes I am about to eat :-)
My bulk powders unflavoured Whey and EE Creatine arrived yesty, so I tried some last night. The Whey was no problem, so I then proceeded to make myself a pint of chocolate flavoured whey and threw some Creatine and 150g of Oats in with it. Yeuck. Man that Creatine is disgusting. In future I'll take it on it's own with just enough milk to make it liquid, rather than having to neck a pint of the bloody stuff.
Buffoons always learn the hard way :-)

Don't have it straight with milk.. that makes it vile. Orange juice is the best until you get used to taking it with water. You develop a taste for it over time!
Nice to see the training is getting back to speed, keep it up!
Cheers Rob, I'll try O.J. then. Thanks mate.
Benching with the Boar, and I decided to drop to triples this week.
Bench Press : 100kgx5, 120kgx5, 130kgx5, 140kgx3, 145kgx3, 150kgx1, 155kg - just missed it, needed a little help from the Boar to get it up. I was very surprised to miss this press, I reckon I would have made it if I hadn't done the 150kg beforehand. Suddenly my 170kg PB doesn't seem too far away.
Over Head Press : 65kgx5, 75kgx5, 85kgx3, 90kgx3, 100kgx1. I was pleased with these, the 100kg was very strict, no leg involvement and went up nice and smooth. Little bit left in the tank tonight.
Tricep Push Downs on the machine, dunno what weight but it was enough for tonight. 5x6.
Overall I was pleased with this sesh, it's the most encouraging sesh for a while. I'm happier doing triples, probably because I'm so out of shape :-)
I'm just about to post a question in the general forum about triples v's 5x5.
Nest sesssion Squats on Friday.
Strangely sore and stiff in the lumbar region today, really struggled getting out of bed but it has loosened up a bit now. I have a feeling I might have pulled it when helping Jonny unrack the bar for benching. I'm gonna have to watch this. Hopefully it won't affect my Squats tommorow.
helping Jonny unrack the bar for benching
ah yes, my immense weights ,meny men have fallen, you wont be the last.....
It's bloody sore today JW. It's one of those wierd ones where most of the time it doesn't hurt at all, but in certain positions it hurts like hell. I think I've just pulled it or strained it somehow. I might have to take it easy with the Squats tonight...or go all out and just stay in bed tommorow...hmm, let me see now...
Meanhwile, my weight is up and down like a pros panties. I've hit 20 stone half a dozen times over the past few days but then drop back to 19 stone 12lbs for no apparent reason. I'll clean my diet up and start shovelling the whey down my neck.
Just noticed my journal is now sticky...are we back to me not being able to reach my own ass again :-)
Squats with the Boar, and the good news was my low back didn't bother me at all doing the Squat movement.
100kgx5, 140kgx5, 150kgx5, 160kgx3, 170kgx3, 180kgx1, 190kgx1, 200kgx1 all done to my ridiculous buffoon depth, which is half a foot lower than a normal person would do them !
I keep getting told off for going too low, but I have practised and practised and now I just can't stop ;-)
However, contrary to popular belief, there is method to my madness. I am desperately in need of some quads and I am certain that a full range of motion will speed development over a "partial" squat to parralel.
The 200kg was comfortable, I would have made 210 but tonights target was 200 so I left it there and went to the calf machine.
Last week my knees were sore and I have decided to blame the Smith machine hack squats which I have been doing at the end of my workouts, so I left them out. If my knees are sore tommorow I am wrong and will lay the blame elsewhere.
There you go, buffoonery, stunning good looks AND powers of logical deduction. What more do you want in a trainee super hero...
Next sesh Monday, the lift of death.
Night night folks.
good lifting dan the man
monday night.
7.30pm.
your gonna wish you were in a hole in the ground round the back of a house in downtown bagdad.*

PMSL, bloody superstar :p
Today my knees are absolutely fine, so looks like I was right and the smith machine squats have been bugging them. So thats the end of those.
My low back on the other hand is sore as fook, but doesn't matter because a decent workout was done.
Today I have invested in some new low cost hiking boots. I decided to treat myself as I have had a good month so these are not quite as low cost as the last pair. Reasonably priced, you might say.
All my lifting is performed totally raw, no belt, no straps, no wraps, just highly unlikely shorts, t-shirt, low cost hiking boots and hard perky nipples stinging gently in the perspiration...
ive got sore legs today dan ,blimey ,cant wait for the platofrm deadson mon , your gonna do a few then hit an easy 220.
My legs are fine Jonny, I must be getting used to training again which is good. My back on the other hand is not. I don't know what I've done here, it's one of those stupid annoying things which was caused by nothing in particular. Like I mentioned before, most of the time it doesn't hurt at all, just in certain positions, like getting out of this chair will hurt so I have decided to stay put for several hours and let the wife do all the work.
I'm a big believer in equality of the sexes, so I'm quite happy to sit on my ass all day doing my knitting and watching Corrie while she goes out and sells cars :-)
I did some pretty intense cardio yesterday which consisted mainly of pushing a heavy lawn mower about on my grass for a number of minutes, punctuated by several reps of walking across the road to empty the grass bucket. Man, what a session that was ! I even swapped the grass bucket from one hand to the other, to maintain my striking symmetry. You would have been proud JW...

my weight is always over the place from 82-86
Yeah it's strange, I went up to 20 stone quite quickly but then the next thing I knew I was back to 19 stone 12...then back up again, then back down again without really changing anything. I need to clean my diet up properly and start hurling the whey down my neck in large quantities, that should sort it.
Deadlifts tonight, and my low back is still playing up. God only knows what I have done to it !!!
The lift of death with The Boar...
Started with Platform deads, 100kgx5, 140kgx5 then went onto conventional deads, 180kgx3, 200kgx1, 220kgx1 ( PB ) and decided there was enough in the tank to hit the 500lb mark, 227.5kgx1 ( PB again ). This muders my previous PB of 215kg by quite a margin, and I think there was more there. I was so pleased with this "landmark" that I did a little dance which totally fxcked me up and I had to sit down for 5 minutes to get my breath back :-)
I dunno what it is but it's strange coincidence that I started the Creatine EE a week ago and all my workouts since then have been much better. Anything that tastes so bad MUST be good for you !
Anyway, I am well pleased, 500lbs has always been a "landmark" lift for me, and tonight I did it. I am now completely confident that I will pull 250kg by Christmas.
While I am here I must point out that a large part of the inspiration for that came from being able to post it on here. I get nothing but encouragement from you guys. This forum is an invaluable resource for all us wannabees. You all know I'm a fat useless cxnt but nobody ever says it out loud, so thanks for that :-)
Shrugs, 100kg, 3x6 - strangely these annoyed my back, but the deadlifts didn't...pinched nerve perhaps ?
Seated Rows, 10-12 plates, 3x8
Barbell Curl, seated so as not to bug my back, 47.5kg, 3x5, 1x4, 1x2 !!!
Knackered, tank empty, went home :-)
Next sesh Wednesday, Chest, Shoulders, Triceps.
Quick thank you to Jonny for continuing to put up with me :-P
And another quick thank you to the nice Chinese people who nailed together my new low cost hiking boots. I'm convinced the extra traction helped immensely with the deadlift...Domo Arigato...or is that Japanese.
well done, i was chuffed when i got 400lbs a fortnight ago and 500's my next milestone, well when i go pack to powerlifting training rather than rugby :D well done, now your in a good mood, any chance of a car? with free insurance? im 17 and male

awsome sesh dan more to come !!!!!
Thanks lads, very encouraging.

Congratulations on getting 500lbs Dan.
Just a thought though, I noticed you said you were deadlifting in Hiking boots. Do these have thick heels?
I'm asking because I was just looking through some of the Deadlift pictures from this year's WPO and most of the guys' footwear was either "deadlift slippers" or thin soled shoes like Converse Chuck Taylors. These shoes will lessen the distance they have to pull the bar.
I was just wondering if you had tried deadlifting in thinner soled shoes as I think it might help you.
Thanks Chris. Yes I am lifting in low cost Hiking Boots and using no belt, no straps, no wraps etc. This is purely for training. When I compete ( next year ) I will invest in some proper deadlift slippers and squat shoes etc. Fow now I just want to increase my strength without any assistance from equipment at al.

And another quick thank you to the nice Chinese people who nailed together my new low cost hiking boots. I'm convinced the extra traction helped immensely with the deadlift...Domo Arigato...or is that Japanese.
He did indeed say he was using hiking boots. In comps I use either a very flat soled shoe or DL slippers. I'll train med/light DLs with thick soled trainers (just to make me work that little bit more) but revert to the old sock only when doing max DL.
Dan, you should take the boots off next time you do max DL .. it should help you to lift even more weight mate. Well done on the PBs too!!!
Thanks Mike.
Tonight sesh at Reps with The Boar :
Bench Press, 100kgx6, 120x5, 130x3, 140x3, 150x1, 160x1...with a little help from Jonny. The Jury is out on whether I would have made it on my own...I definitely would have walked the 155kg which I failed last week.
Overhead Press, 65kgx5, 75x5, 85x3, 92.5x2, 100 FAIL !!!
Tried the 100kg again and failed again. This made me so mad because I made it last week...more of this in a moment.
Skull Crushers, 40kg+bar, 5,5,4,3,2. By now I was totally whacked, tank empty.
Ok, I've had this strange feeling like a bit of Flu, some nights it's been pretty bad and had me shivering in bed trying to keep warm, other nights it's nowhere near as bad but is still there. It's been hanging around for a couple of weeks now and it needs to sod off. Tonight it was quite bad and I was on the brink of skipping the sesh, but after a good meal I felt better and went to train. I faded fast, felt nowhere near as fresh as last week, so it is a genuine thing and not in my head.
I'm gonna try and get an early night and late start to try to sleep it off. I don't want it interfering with my training.
Friday is Squats, and I think I'm going to stop messing about with 1rm attempts and get down to grinding out some triples, then in a couple of weeks I'll switch to fives, then try some 1rms the week after that.
good stuff dan, over the next few weeks we will knuckle down for some sick workouts, cant get 1rep PB'severy sesh - timeto get nastaaaayyyyyy

wildboar: I've just noticed your avatar. PMSL!
Friday night is Squat night !!!
50kgx5, 100kgx5, 142.5kgx5, 170kgx3, 180kgx3, 185kgx3, 200kgx2, 220kg FAILED. Very annoying. I actually failed this lift HALF WAY UP !
I had pretty much got it ( at least it felt that way to me ), but just couldn't quite get it all the way. I'll get it next time without fail.
If only I had done one or two less reps on the way there, or if I had one less tug before I left the house this morning I would have made it.
Lesson learned, no excessive thrapping of the man meat on Leg day.
Jonny did some solid 5x5s with loads of agression. He's a chunky Monkey.
Did some Good Mornings with the empty bar, as the Boar thinks I need to start doing them.
Then finished off on the Calf machine, 5x8 as heavy as I could do them.
Weight 19 stone 10 pounds - I'm wasting away !
I need to eat much more, and cleaner than I am doing.
Next sesh Monday, the lift of Death...
The lift of death with The Boar...
Standing on a 4 inch Platform :
50kgx5, 100kgx5, 150kgx3, 180kgx3
...then off the platform :
200kgx1, 220kgx1, 235kgx1 ( PB ). 250kg will be murdered by Christmas. I can't beleive I have got this far so quickly. I am well chuffed with my fat self.
...then back on the platform :
150kgx5
Lat PullDowns, 15 plates, 5x5 Wide Grip, 5x5 Narrow Grip
Barbell Curl, 45kg plus EZ Bar, 5,5,4, 40kgx4, 30kgx5
Fitness was an issue once again.
I was knackered when it came to curl time. The "big" single had drained me quite a bit.
Weight 19 stone 10 pounds and looking reasonably lean for a buffoon even if I say so my fat self...the bloat has gone. Still tempted to do a little cardio. Jonny is now so much fitter than me he absoutely murdered me on the curls, he had plenty left in the tank and I just wanted to go lie down...I think a little jogging would help...and it's the thought that counts :-)
Next sesh Friday, Squats. I'm missing Wednesday due to being in Scotland buying Nissans, but I may well put a Chest/Shoulder/Tricep session in at home on Thursday night.
top lifting dan mate, kenneth mentioned to me on the way home how he sometimes liked it if we both stand on him at the same time.
much more to come from the reps powerlifting unit.
He's some character that Kenneth :-)
Would we both fit on him at once, with our power bellies...and more to the point would he take the strain !!!
See you Friday chunky svelte Monkey...

Nice graphic Jonny, but whats this, only 5 plates on the bar !!!
That just won't do :-)
well when one of us can lift 6 plates - the logo will be changed forever !!!
Race ya to 260kg then Jonny :-)
Grr, got stuck in work last night, so missed the Squat session. Still, I've been pushing it pretty hard so I guess a couple of days off won't hurt.
a couple of days will hurt once i whack you over the bonce with kenneth !!
150kg 5 x 5 squats despite the lack of verbal encouragement !!
monday:deadlifts:7.30
Good squatting Jonny, sorry I missed the sesh.
Did you get me text ? I texted about 6.30 to let you know I was still in work...waiting around for people to give me money, damned customers :-)
See you Monday.
Saturday night sat around watching TV. Boredom set in, so :
Overhead Press, 50kgx10, 60kgx8, 70kgx5, 80kgx5, 90kgx3, 100kgx1, 60kgx8, 50kgx10. Delts and Triceps so pumped I could barely shower. Cool.
I've decided I need more reps in my life. My strength is increasing but I'm not growing much. I think more reps will help ( this is the remnants of all that Bodybuilding training ! ). I'm a very shallow individual and part of this training is to actually look the part aswell as getting stronger, so I do want hypertrophy.
I've also been thinking about the progress I'm making. The best progress I ever made was when I trained one bodypart per session to failure. This enables you to hit each muscle group with everything you've got because you're always fresh. Each bodypart gets maximum effort every session.
With this in mind, I'm thinking of splitting my current routine up and adding 2 extra days, like this :
Monday, Deadlifts with The Boar...then shout encouragement at him while he does the rest of his Monday session.
Tuesday, Back ( as in Lats ) and Biceps.
Wednesday, Chest with The Boar.
Thursday I work late, so this is a rest day.
Friday, Squats with the Boar.
Saturday, Overhead Press and Triceps.
Sunday rest.
Recovery wasn't a problem last time I did this, I'm lucky enough to work quite laid back hours so I can get plenty of sleep. I'm giving this serious thought because my Back and Biceps aren't getting hit very hard because I'm knackered from Deadlifts, and likewise my Shoulders and Triceps are getting a less than maximal effort because I'm knackered from Bench Presses. My lats, delts and arms used to be quite decent, but this time they just aren't growing and I think it's because they are getting trained when I'm already quite tired.
Any thoughts, especially from the more experienced guys would be very much appreciated.
Next session, Monday, Deadlifts...
Meanwhile I'm off to drag a pair of very reluctant Rottweilers around the lake in the pouring rain. Deep joy.
Deadlifts with The Boar and I am chasing more reps.
Warm up with 50kgx5, 100kgx5, 140kgx5, followed by 5x5 with 180kg. I was pulling this quite happily but towards the end struggled with my grip. Still made the reps, but burst blood vessels in both forearms from holding onto the bar ! My grip has always been pathetic !
Seated Rowing, 4x6 with increasing numbers of plates.
Barbell Curl, 40kg plus the bar, 5x5.
Happy. Much more work done in this session. I'll stick to 5x5 for a few weeks and not do any 1rms for at least 3 weeks to see what happens.
Next sesh Wednesday, Chest and Triceps.
Surprisingly sore today, feels like those 5x5 have done me a world of good so I will stick with them.
Weight now 19 stone 7 pounds...the weight is dropping off me somehow, do I have AIDS ???
And that bloody Wildboar told me he got the all clear from the Clinic...
And that bloody Wildboar told me he got the all clear from the Clinic...
that was 3 months ago !!!!!
im sore too.
im sore too.
Ring piece Jonny ?
I get that a lot mate, I'll be more gentle next time ;)
Ok, back to 5x5 with The Boar. I wasn't sure what weight to choose cos I haven't done 5x5 for a while, so :
Bench Press, 120kg, 5x5. Just a touch on the light side, probably want 125kg next session.
Overhead Press, 67.5kg, 4x5 and 1x10. Quite a bit off with this one, so much so that I did 10 reps on the last set. I'm guessing 75kg next session which is way off my PB of 5x5 with 90kg but I'll get there.
Triceps Push Downs...with one plate less than the Boar as he took such delight in pointing out EVERY time he changed the weight ;-) 5x5.
Good sesh, nice pumps and I feel like I've done some reasonable work instead of playing about with 1rms. Don't get me wrong, I think 1rms have their place but for me right now I need more volume to stimulate some growth.
Weight 19 stone 7 pounds, which is remarkably lean for a fat bastard.
Next session is Saturday instead of Friday, but still Squats.
dan, 12.15 tomoz - i'll text/ring ya , gonna bring the camera, so wear somthing tight.
Saturday morning sessions...hmm, not nice. We normally train on Fridays but I had been invited out on a bit of a do, and Jonny had something on aswell so we foolishly agreed to meet this morning and Squat. I was quite drunk, fell out of my bed, showered and jumped in the car. No time for breakfast and I was feeling less than optimal !!!
Squats, 152.5kg 5x5 and boy was I glad to get these finished today.
I'm actually quite pleased because it would have been very easy to skip this session but we didn't, but I won't be getting boiled the night before a Squat session again !!!
your a very naughty boy.

Cheers for the vid Jonny. My little milk bottle legs look like a pair of tooth picks sticking out of my pants !!!
I need to work my legs and calves much harder.
Pleased with the depth though.
Deadlifts off a 4 inch platform, affectionately known as "Kenneth", 152.5kg, 5x5. I find these very strange, the weight is not a problem and yet these have me blowing like mad after 5x5, just from getting so low. They are tough, therefore they must be good for me ;-)
T-Bar Rows, 95kg, 3x5. Not done these for a long time, this was a touch heavy so left it at 3 sets for now, and I can feel the lats this morning.
Barbell Curl, 42.5kg+the Bar, 5x5.
I have a dull aching sensation in my left bollock which has been around for a couple of days ( the ache, not the bollock ! ) and is beginning to bug me. I may be doing a bit too much and need to cut back to 4 times a day for a while ;-)
Next session Wednesday, Chest and Shoulders.
Bench Press, 130kg ( bit optimistic but I was being prodded by The Boar ), 5,5,4,3,2 !!!
Overhead Press, 75kg, 5,5,5,5,7. Ready for more.
French Press, 30kg plus a very heavy triceps bar, 5,5,5,5,5.
Disappointed not to get the reps on the Bench, but my pecs and triceps are sore today so they did the job anyway. I'm thinking 125kg next sesh.
As a side note the 5x5 is having a much more obvious effect on my appearance. I'm actually starting to look like I lift weights rather than just looking like some fat cunt who drinks loads of Guinness.
Bodyweight 19 stone 10 pounds. I'm still not eating enough.
Next sesh Friday, Squat till we drop.
dan dan dan dan...i wont mention that your last set of bench was actually 122.5kg (what i was doing) I just simply refuse to mention it.
i wont shame you in that way.
you know its probably down to your technique - you rely on the mighty tri's to much, thus fry'ing them befor the 5 x 5 is up.

Ah yes, I accidentally ( on purpose ) completely forgot that I dropped the weight for the last set. In my defence I did say it wouldn't make any difference cos I was already fooked and I think I would have made 2 at 130.
I agree, I need a benching technique. In fact I need a Deadlift and Squat technique as well ! I'm going to have to try and make an Adlington sesh and learn how to lift properly.
Fridays sesh ( sorry, been off line a couple of days )
Squat, ass to grass, 160kg, 5,5,5,5,5
Bit too easy, 165kg next time.
The dull ache in my left nut came back straight after these, dunno why as I didn't find them exceptionally tough. Need to keep an eye on this as I am quite fond of my left bollock.
Next sesh Monday, Deadlifts...that's tommorow that is.
Deadlifts, 185kg ( +5kg ), 5,5,5,5,5
Enjoyed these, very good work. Struggled with the left hand as usual towards the end. The Boar says I should be using 200kg...maybe next week !
T Bar Rows, 75kg, 6,6,6,6,6
Barbell Curl, 45kg+Bar ( +2.5kg ), 5,5,5,5,4
In my defence I was slightly distracted by a gorgeous young blonde girl who was performing cardio in the corner of my eye. Well, not literally in the corner of my eye because that would have hurt like hell, but you know what I mean. She finished her work and moved away, if she had stayed I would have made that last rep ;-)
Mr. Boar asked me to measure some things...right thigh is 27.5 inches, right arm is just a fraction off 19 inches, left is 18.25 inches, chest is 54, waist is 41 ( fat bastard ), I weigh 19 stone 10 pounds and most importantly my penis is...oh no, my number keys are broken !
While I'm on the subject of the Boar I must say I have a lot of respect for Jonny. He is 4 stone lighter than me and still grinds out the same reps as me with the same weight week after week. He just doesn't know how to fail a set. Top bloke, very determined.
kisses !!!
gonna keep grinding out them sets dannyboy....
see 27.5 is only 1 inch smaller than the boars thigh (and mabie you didnt measure it at the top bit?)
Bench Press, 125kg, 5,5,5,5,5. Pleased with that, felt a little bit too easy right up to the last set but I wouldn't have made the reps with any more this week. 127.5kg next time.
Overhead Press, 77.5kg ( +2.5 ), 5,5,5,5,7. Still a tad too light, 80kg next time.
French Press, 30kg + heavy Triceps bar, 6,6,6,6,6.
Good sesssion, feels so much better when you make the reps.
Hmm, been talking to an old mate of mine today. We were discussing how pathetically weak I am for my size. I just don't get it. Am I doing something wrong ?
Logic would suggest that big muscles = big lifts and yet I am quite a large bloke and can't lift very much at all. My 1rms are 235 in the Deadlift, 215 in the Squat and 170 on the Bench, although I AM going to do a 250kg Deadlift and a 227.5kg Squat VERY soon and equal that Bench. These are RAW lifts, I don't even wear a belt, but I'm nearly 20 stone ferchrissakes, where's all the power ???
Is there something really obvious that I have missed ?
yes daniel my friend: food!!!!!!
Food ! Ah yes, I really must start eating sometime soon. Does that really make so much difference ? I mean I'm never really hungry.
Squats, was scheduled for 165kg but couldn't help thinking last weeks 160kg was a bit too easy. I checked with my training partner and mentor Jonny Wildboar and he also agreed that the 160kg looked too easy. I really need to start to pushing myself especially on the legs so I went with 170kg. I was glad I did.
170kg, 5,5,5,5,5. All reps ass to heels. Sweating profusely. Very pleased, 175kg next time.
Finished with some Calf work.
Next session Monday, Deadlifts and I think we are on the platform.
Bit of strange day today, felt a bit sleepy and generally below par, but anyway...Deadlifts. Last week we did 185kg for 5x5 and Jonny was telling me I should be doing 200...after a brief consultation I thought why the hell not, the worst that can happen is it would kill me :
Deadlift, 200kg, 5,5,5,5,5. I seem to have been deluding myself. I have been convinced I was working hard, and yet I mysteriously add 15kg and still make the reps...hmm.
Barbell Curl, 45kg plus the bar, 5,5,5,5,2.5...then a couple of failed epileptic type curls where everything moves except the bar. It wasn't happening, I was knackered.
Disappointed to miss the reps on the curls, but pleased as punch with the deads. 250kg will be mine, oh yes.
There is a good chance I will miss Wednesday as I am in Scotland at an Auction...
Cheers Jonny, and thanks for pushing me. Little A reckons that 200 5x5 is enough for a 250 single...we will see soon enough ;-)

wow thats great stuff!!
Thanks for the encouragement lads, it's much appreciated.
UKM : Me and Jonny are doing a week of triples and 1rms at the end of November - hopefully they will all be on video to post up and check our form etc. I AM going to pull 250kg or Jonny gets to beat me with a big stick :-)
I missed Wednesday through being in Scotland buying Nissans, so I'm going to do Bench, Overheads and Triceps in my garage tonight...and it's COLD !
Interesting Squat session last night. First off I had diaore..., I had diarho..., I had the shits. So I was a bit wary of squatting to begin with in case the effort somehow caused a bit to leak out...
Secondly, I was inspired my the comments on here saying my Squats were in good form etc, so rather than doing the scheduled 175kg I wanted to go straight to 180...
Right before I started I went to the loo and got rid of everything I could, just to be on the safe side...
Squats, 180kg ( +10kg ), 5,5,5,5,5.
Very pleased with these, all ass to heels in good form, no sloppiness crept in, no rounding of the back at the bottom and head was held up high throughout.
I was doubly pleased because no unsightly deposits were left in the vicinity of the Squat rack...
Next session 185, or will it be 190 ???
Finished off with some calf work, then ran to the toilet again ;-)
most unsavoury thoughts whilst spotting the big man on these.
once again , i had to scrub my genitals with a rasp.
My quads are fine today but by some bizarre twist my calves are totally shot. They won't straighten, so I'm hobbling about the place like a man who had his bell rung once to often the night before. Which I didn't incidentally...
I recollect having 120kg on the calf machine, plus my bodyweight, so I knocked out sets of 8,8,8,8 and 11 with 240+ kilos...
Silly man.
Monday night Deadlift session. One word, disaster.
I had a grand plan of doing 3x5 at 210, then 1x3 at 220 and 1x3 at 230. During the warm up I felt my low back getting tight, then I tried a triple at 180 ( a warm up ) and put it down after 2 reps. My low back was knackered. I did my best to save the session by trying a triples at 180 and 200 then moved on to 220 and tried a triple again. I got it up once, failed the second and that was that, my low back was totally knackered, I just had nothing left.
I have no explanation for this, I was well up for it, motivated etc and felt totally fresh when I arrived at the gym, the only thing I can think of is that my Squats on Friday must have drained me more than I thought. I was very peed off and quite confused as to why this happened.
Hammer machine Rows, 100kg, 5x8.
Barbell Curl, 45kg + Bar, 5,5,5,5,4.
Next session Wednesday, Bench, Overheads and Triceps.
Wednesday, Chest, Overheads and Triceps..
Bench, 127.5kg ( +2.5 ) 5,5,5,5,5 - 130kg next session.
Overhead Press, 80kg ( + 2.5 ) 5,5,5,5,5 - 82.5kg next session.
French Press, 30kg plus heavy triceps bar, 6,6,6,6,6 - 32.5kg next session.
Much better than Mondays session, two weight increases and maintained the reps. Felt hard though, its gonna be tough to increase again next sesh and keep these reps.
Next session Friday, Squats. Deep joy.
On another note today at work I thought I was going to do a fart of monumental proportions. One to be proud of. One to tell the grand kids about. I lifted my leg and triumphantly let her rip. Unfortunately there was slightly more substance to it than I expected. I've never driven home as quickly in my life, or in more uncomfortable trousers. Yeuck.
mmm, you were very wise not to mention this to me dan, i may have stabbed you in the kidney.
good sesh mate

Much too much information.......:o :o :o
I do have a tendency to type before I think things through :-)
The lift of death, and after last weeks shocking performance I decided to take a break from 5x5 for one week and do some triples.
Worked up through 180x3, 200x3 and 220x3 which was good. I actually felt good for 220x5 but the grip was slipping and I wanted to move onwards.
I made a 240kg single for a PB and was happy with it, so decided tonight was the night for the 250kg. Jonny told me to really attack it and rip it off the floor, so I tried. It flew off the floor but then I found myself with my legs locked straight with my back well bent and stuck in no mans land. I started to pull but thought just for a moment I was in a bad position and something might give, so decided discretion being the better part of valor and all that, a failure is better than an injury so I threw it down in disgust. I was VERY annoyed because I think technique let me down rather than lack of strength. Without the triple at 220 or the 240 single I would have made it without shadow of doubt and I was well annoyed. Next time I'll have it.
T Bar rows, 80kg, 6,6,6,6,6
Barbell Curl, 45kg+Bar, 5,5,5,5,5.
Still annoyed about the deadlift !
Bench tonight, and to be honest I was glad we were going for singles tonight as it's been a long night - and day - with not much sleep and no grub, but these things happen, especially when your knocking off a bird half your age 200 miles away :-). Theoretically speaking, of course...
Bench, 100kgx6, 140kgx3, 160kgx1, 140kgx3, 140kgx3.
Short but sweet.
Overhead Press, 82.5kg ( +2.5 ), 5,4,3,3,3,3. Target 5x5 next week.
Triceps pushdowns ( machine ), 9 plates x 6,6,6. 10 plates by 6,6.
Feeling pretty tired after that, but then it's my own stupid fault !

Great lifting, Dan. If you really want to pull a large PB on deadlifts, then don't do all the triples beforehand. If you only pull singles as warm-ups then you'll pull 250 piss easy.
Thanks Phil, yes I think your'e right. Jonny said a triple at 220 was actually more impressive that the 240 single, so it probably took a bit out of me.
Squats tonight. I have a stinking cold but I'm not doing 5x5, just singles and 1rm so don't think it will affect me too much. I'll try 220 for a pb, ass to heels, no belt or wraps, and if I make that I'll try 227.5 to give me a 500 pound Squat.
see ya there big boy, i'll bring my camera!!
Squats...100x3, 140x3, 180x3, 200x1, 220x1 ( PB ).
I was disappointed to be honest. On the bright side my form was spot on and I didn't scrimp on depth, this was ass to ankles, no belt or wraps, totally raw, back straight, head high etc. But I was disappointed because I came up really slowly. I expected to murder this weight and try 227.5 but Jonny said it wasn't gonna happen tonight and I have to agree. 220 was the limit last night, it was a good lift, it never stopped coming up but it took maybe 2 seconds to get it up which feels like forever while your doing it. Any more weight and I just wouldn't have made it.
Calf machine ( plus bodyweight ) 140kgx10, 180kgx8, 200kgx6,6,6,6,6. Nothing left. This is the first time I've moved serious weight with my calves and it felt good. These are plus bodyweight cos its a standing machine, so the last sets were around 325kg.
Ok, so this weeks benchmarks were : Deadlift 240kg, Bench 160kg, Squat 220kg. All raw, no belt or anything. That gives me 620kg total. On another day I would have made that 250kg deadlift, but thats the one that got away. Back to some proper training next week and I'll try 1rms again around the end of the year.
Deadlifts, sticking to triples for another week before the final push to krimbo.
100x3, 140x3, 180x3, 200x3, 220x3, 240 failed. Very annoyed. I made 240 last week, so why not this week...Grrr.
T Bar Rows, 80kg, 6,6,6,6,6
Barbell Curl, 45kg+Bar, 5,5,5,5,5
Next session Wednesday, Chest, Shoulders and Tris.

Great lifting, Dan.
I'd blame that hypothetical bird of yours for missing the 240!

Squats...100x3, 140x3, 180x3, 200x1, 220x1 ( PB ).

Nowt wrong with 220 raw Danny boy
Cheers guys, its just because I was focused on the 227.5 ( 500 pounds ) and expected the 220 to be fairly easy. Next time the 500 is mine.
Tonights sesh :
Bench, 100x6, 120x6, 130x5, 140x3x3x3
Dumbell Overhead Press ( never done before ), 70lbs each hand, 10,10,9.5 - right hand made it, left didn't !
Dumbell Lateral Raises ( never done ), 20kg each hand, 10,10,10
Triceps Push Down machine, 6 platesx10, 7 platesx10, 8 platesx10,10.
Good sesh. The higher reps pumped me up like crazy around the delts and it felt quite good to be honest. Jonny made noises about doing higher rep work from now till Christmas, just to shake things up a bit. Should be interesting.
I'll miss Friday due to an Auction - in Scotland of course ;-)
Next session Monday, Deadlifts.
Deadlifts, planned off the platform with Jonny but Jonny, and therefore the platform didn't make it.
So :
Deadlifts, 100kgx10, 140x6, 180x5, 200x3, 220x1+1+1. I had planned to triple the 220 but the left hand was bleeding from an accident earlier today and despite half a gallon of chalk I couldn't grip, so did 3 singles instead.
Seated machine Rows, 8 plates x 8, 10 plates x8,8,8
Machine close grip pulldowns, 8 plates x 8, 10 plates x8,8,8
Barbell Curl, 40kg + Bar ( 10kg ? ), 7,6,4,3,4.
Left the gym at 8.05, which means that lot took just 35 minutes. I was moving too quickly because I'm not used to Jonny not being there, so by the curls I was quite knackered and drenched in sweat. Nice.
I will most likely miss Wednesday session due to an auction in Scotland again, but may well do that sesh at home on Thursday. Otherwise its Legs on Friday.
Squat night with the Boar.
100kgx8, 140kgx7, 180kgx5,4,5, 100kgx12. These were harder than I expected. I did 5x5 a couple of weeks back at 180kg.
Ok, the last 2 or 3 weeks I am not feeling strong. The workouts are hard and I can't make the same reps as I could a couple of weeks back. Furthermore, I got on the scales tonight at 19 stone 3 pounds, which is the lightest I have been for ages. Whats going on ? The biggest factor for me is that I actually do FEEL weaker and I'm losing weight, so something isnt right. To the best of my knowledge I havent changed anything which could influence me in this way.
Any suggestions welcome.
I am now away for a weekend in a posh hotel, eating posh food, floundering in the pool and getting up to no good in the Jacuzzi with my imaginary girlfriend who really doesnt exist, just in case the wife is reading ;-)
I'm back Tuesday, so my next session is Wednesday for Chest, Shoulders, Triceps.
that last set of 5 is somthing to be proud of big boy !!!!
have a good weekend, you randy old goat.
kisses.
