This is my brother's meet report (written for his American mates, so all the weights are in pounds) from this contest which was held on Saturday. As you can see, if he wasn't so retarded at doing the log press he would've won the whole thing...
5 events - order was changed due to expected rain:
1. Farmers walk - 250lb per hand for 200ft with 3 turns.
I made it without dropping the weights and got 2nd place overall.
2.Truck Push and chain drag medley - 60 sec limit
I made it and placed 4th in this one. Most could not complete the event.
3. Log Clean and Press - 210, 230, 250, 270 - 60 sec.
I sucked and only got the first 2. Most guys did much less than expected due to the nedley frying the quads. I had problems with lifting outside for the first time - When I looked up to press the log overhead, I got vertigo or something and could not balance. It was weird, but my fault for not preparing by lifting logs outside. I was probably used to focusing on the ceiling or wall at the gym..... Anyway, I would have won the whole contest if this had gone well.
4. Car DL for reps - teen LWs did empty car from high position, teen HWs did empty car from low position, LWs did car with 200 lbs in trunk from high position, HWs did car with 200 lbs in trunk from low position.
I won with 15 reps!
5. Stones - 40" barrels, 10 stones. HWs did 245,245,260,260,300,300,330,330,360,360. It started raining, so we did this inside which made Marc Bartley (gym owner) very nervous about the gym being trashed! It turned out to be not too bad.
I got 7 stones and I was spent. Best performance was 8 stones. I have not seen the score sheets, but I suspect I was on the slow side getting 7 stones. They felt light, but the previous events caught up with me.
3rd place overall HW with a good standard of competition. Only top 2 go to Nationals, so I missed out there, but this was a great improvement for me. I was especially pleased with the Farmers Walk.
The event was run very well by Tom Kaufman, Mike Johnston and Geoff Dolan (his finger has grown back nicely!) [EDIT: Geoff had a very nasty injury when doing the stones a few months back. He put one stone up and as he rushed off to do the next one, it rolled onto his little finger and... yep... he tore his little finger COMPLETELY OFF. It sounds like they have reattached it successfully]. There were a couple of photographers, so I should have some good pictures soon.
When I arrived, I asked about weigh-in and was asked why I wanted to weigh in - just for shits and giggles?! I was 327.5 lbs
I may compete in beast of the east on 4/29 in Myrtle Beach - if I can get my log press moving....
