For anyone who's interested below is a report on the Southwest lifters at the british juniors, our numbers are well up on previous years with plenty of time for the lads to develop.

BRITISH JUNIOR POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

HELD AT ASTOR COLLEGE DOVER JANUARY 26th AND 27th 2006

Report by Paul Rees

Ten lifters at The British Junior Power Lifting championships represented Southwest. They were held in an excellent venue on Saturday and Sunday 28th and 29th of January. Divisional secretary Mark Dickerson along with Mick Barry were the referee’s and along with Geoff Poole. Paul and Nick Rees, and the 14 parents, brothers and sisters present coached and supported our team vigorously throughout.

Jodie Stevenson lifted with great efficiency and style to win the 48kg class. This young lady has a number of championships and many records to her name and we were all proud to see her succeed yet again. Steven Tyers 52kg class also lifted in the first session and performed well in the squat and bench press with new personal bests but really thrilled the audience with a British Junior U18 Record in the dead lift of 150.5k.

Sam Beaglehole 56Kg class and Robert Lambeth 67.5kg class also from Bournemouth Athletic Club were placed in second place after close battles with the eventual winners. Both performed with much promise for the future.

Andy Hayes 75kg class lifted with real aggression for a 14 year old and will achieve high honours if he really wants it .He came 4th in a really tough class. Sam Bolton 82.5 kg class BAC came from behind in the dead lift to pull 180kg and win the class on bodyweight. His total of 425kg was a personal best.

In the U18 100kg class Daniel Brunsden the English Schools senior shot putt champion achieved a best performance with a 490kg total in winning from Alistair McCuchion 415kg, also a Personal best. Remember folks these under 18s are lifting unequipped and are improving fast.

On the second day U20 Carlin Jones lifted particularly well more or less unequipped, His total of 572.5k was well within his abilities. If the author of this article had been more ambitious with the call for Carlins last dead lift I am sure he would have won this class. He has great talent and a sense of real purpose. Look out for him in the future.

Our final u20 competitor was 110K kg class lifter Tom Croose. He was really impressive and has developed so much in the last year in performance and skill under coach Mark Dickerson. His bench of 165k looked comfortable and he was close to a 252.5k dead lift. Tom won the South Wests 5TH gold and along with the 4 silvers from other lifters made this a successful championships

Well done everyone and many thanks to our hosts who ran a. great championships? Particular credit is due to John Halfacre the GB junior team coach who organised these championships. Thanks John.

Paul Rees.
