View Full Version : Me playing with my Log!

I often do some log presses as part of my bench press training, sometimes standing and sometimes using the incline bench as I like to vary things a bit. Anyway, after tonights benching session, I decided to have a go at pressing 130kgs for reps to see what I could do as I was feeling a bit inspired after watching the heats of WSM and I managed 6 reps. I was very pleased with that as my 1 rep max on the log is 145kgs.
It was one of those sessions when you just feel strong as I'd just done a 240 shirted bench too - having 3 weeks off has done me the world of good!
Here's a link to a video clip of me doing it:

Good work Rob, you look really chuffed at the end as well :D
Should give you a 1RM of 150 or so as well...
Happy new year Rob, looks like you could chuck ten up with a better more explosive 'push'.
Great lifting

Thanks lads!
Happy new year to you too Wyn mate!
I'd love to have a go at strongman but I'm self employed and am a bit afraid of getting injured and having to take a long time off work, that's the only reason holding me back right now to be honest. I know there are risks with powerlifting too but it's the akward objects etc. in strongman that I think makes it a far higher risk than powerlifting - plus I'll be 35 soon so I'm getting a bit old to start all that now ;-)

very easy, that was like a bodybuilding exercise - use your legs more and you should be good for 140 + for same reps (that is my bench press). have a great years training and maybe i will get to compete against you in a couple of years

I've had a play with some of Dale's (Welshdragon's) toys in the past - log, farmers, Yoke, tyre and stones and I also have a pair of farmers of my own - you can see them in the picture of my gym below:

I hear Dale has some new and improved toys now so I'm looking forward to having a go of those sometime soon!

Cheers Dale, I'll be up one weekend soon mate!
Chinster, I've got this one (and I think Justin's got the same one too):

I also bought the following lat attachment for it aswell as there's no lat attachment with it when you buy it:
http://gymratz.co.uk/weight-training-gym-equipment/item536.htm
Both the rack and attachment are very good and I think the rack is rated to 1500lbs so even Andy Bolton can sqaut it! My only issue with it is that the uprights are positioned where I'd like to place my hands when squatting so I've got to hold with a narrower grip which was akward at first but I'm now starting to get used to.

Thats awesome pressing mate, as said above, for max reps, the technique was not that good, which makes it even more impressive. With a more explosive leg drive, you would have pissed 10 reps with that.
I understand your fears about injuries, my mates have been trying to get me to go event training with them for a while, but I just know I'll end up pulling something.

Really good reps, that is awsome stregnth, looks like u got alot of good training equipment to, do you think training with the strong and equipment helps you much when is comes to powerlifting, or do you just enjoy using the equipment?

To be honest, I just enjoy playing with them, it keeps the training interesting I supose. That said, I think the log press (both standing and incline on a bench) have definately helped to improve my tricep strenght which will obviously have a carry over into the bench press. I also think that other exersises like the farmers etc. will also have a good carry over because of the grip and "deadlifting" aspect of it. They are also a great overall body workout as I ache like Feck the following day!!!!
Awesome! Your looking very strong Rob
I will have to try the log lift some time.
