Trained with Dai, Craig and Ben tonight at Empire, St Pauls, Bristol.

Ben was squatting raw and worked up to 222.5kg for a single. Craig and Dai are starting a periodisation programme and were doing easy doubles in Centurion suits with 300kg, well actually around 302.5kg, they don't count the collars, kind of bonus when you get to comp. Dai was struggling with his super tight suit to make depth, I think it will take a little more than 302.5kg to get that down in that suit.

I worked up to 335kg plus collars, around 337.5kg. It was definately my max as I put everything into getting that bitch up. I thought I made better depth, but yet still it's borderline.
My form alarms me the most, didn't sit back very well and my knees travel inwards, poor form!!!
I missed the predators, looking forward to getting them back next week.

Here is the movie clip of our lifting: http://www.powerliftinguk.com/files/empire19thSept.wmv (http://www.powerliftinguk.com/files/empire19thSept.wmv)

Here is the freeze frame of me in the hole. My left leg furthest away looks like I make depth but the right leg looks borderline. Is it the camera angle, or am I kidding myself about making depth??

you need to fire your head back and get that chest up and out, it might be keeping you from sitting back fully

Concentrate on forcing the knees out when squatting. As a warmup to a squat session, use like 60kg and put a mini band around your legs so u HAVE to force your knees out

Also, drop the weight, get the form perfect then work up again then past 337.5kg and try putting the bar a tiny bit lower on the back-pushing centre of gravity backwards a bit more

Hope that helps

Thanks for the advice. I definately need to work on keeping my head up and chest out. I find it hard to pull a full lung of wind when the bar is on my back.
Don't usually have a problem with my knees coming in, but I think making the extra effort to make depth forced them in, the power pants don't help.

Forgot to mention Craig wrapped my knees for me, showing me the way the Russians showed him at the Euros. Awesome way of wrapping them, makes a massive difference and made my knees feel solid and the assistance out of the whole is much better. I couldn't explain how to do it. Maybe get Craig to do a video showing you all.

Funny story how he found out off them how to wrap his knees the Russian way. They waited until after the comp (obviously don't want to help the competition) and said to Craig and Dai, good squatting lads, shame you never used your knee wraps. They gave a funny puzzled look and said pardon? and they fella said, "the way you lads have your knees wrapped, you may as well not be wearing them". He then went on and showed them how to do it.

Your getting stronger every week. Awesome!!

Have you seen Brent's hardcore powerlifting video from iron gladiators. I think watching that would help you alot with your squat!!

Well Done Mate

Seen that clip, much better way of doing it than that. The way I have been shown, is by doing a compete wrap over the knee and then two criss cross, one under and above the knee cap, each criss cross needs to be locked in with a wrap, Craig explained it, being like two extra tendons on your knee cap.
I have had Dave Beattie (Bulldog) wrap my knees super super tight, like the Joe skopec shows, but it aint nothing like the Russian way.

I squatted 310kg with just briefs before the British and actually squatted 300kg in briefs at the British but missed 315kg, so I'm still not getting as much out of the canvas as I will.

Yeah I got both Brent's videos, got to get them back from Chris.
Watching them is what taught me to keep my shins at 90 degrees, but my form went totally to shit last night.
The predators don't force your knees in like the power pants, so with them I doubt I'll have so much of a problem.

Hopefully lots of clips and pics of the WPC/WPO.
Strictly no video equipment aloud at the WPO, so I'm going to have fun filming.
I'll just pretend I'm taking a picture but keep the camera on them...LOL

So your the guy who makes all them dodgy dvd's that are floating around. You are the guy that sits in the back of the cinema with a big rain coat on

You strong mother Justin, no t-shirt on and stepping back. I think you would give any 82.5kg lifter in this country a run for there money.

Hey Justin ive always been taught to first push my glutes as the first movement i find this keeps the knees back and at the right angle your refering to its a bit of a fight with that suit i realise but i think would be beneficial, another good reference point is craig coombes squatting on that video he seems to sit back well and also hits the same depth everytime and just dips in and out for depth. Awesome weight irrespective tho mate, keep it up!!
