He took heavyweight boxing to the top of it's game, the good old days when you could stay in and watch the big fights on TV. Now it's all pay per view, and heavyweight boxing is lacking big fighters like Tyson.
I wonder how long it will be before we get a another Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson. I think we will see UFC take centre stage before that happens.

I very much doubt that you will ever see another rocky marciano. He was in my eyes the greatest heavy weight of all time. It would have great to see him and mike get it on though. They both had/have killer hooks. Tyson has the best upper cut. Did you see those on frank?

Going a bit lighter - who would win if they were in the same weight class.
Ricky Hatton or Joe Calzaghe?

I think that ricky would knock him out. What do you think?

Ricky is an ass up head down kind of fighter always coming forward, his fitness and work rate wins most fights.
Calzaghe has the fitness to match but is a more skillful boxer, he would open that eye of Hatton's right up.

do you think haevyweight boxing is not so good nowdays as there seems easier oppunities to make money in other sports ?
I like the seventies myself when you had Ali,foreman, frazier, earnie shavers ,ken norton etc, I do not think it will ever be like that again.
surprised no one mentioned ,jack johnson or jack dempsey.

I reckon clazaghe would stop Hatton, hatton is a great fighter but after calzaghes performance against jeff lacey, showed that he is in a class of his own

Calzaghe will definately stop Hatton - mostly because he's 4 weights heavier! Both of them are excellent fighters but the difference in weight is quite a bit.

how bout hatton vs callazo? i reckon it will be a tough fight for hatton that callazos good at fighting going backwards so it'll suit him with hatton steaming in! my moneys on hatton stopping him late on -like around ninth round reckon it'll be close though

I missed the fight - my effing sky+ packed in at about 8pm :-(
Spoke to a mate who watched it and he said it was real "edge of the seat" viewing and was a very close fight and that Hatton was almost out on his feet at the end of the 12th but managed to hang on. Well done to him!

Yeah, what we've got to remember is that Hatton went there as the challenger and has never fought outside of the UK. He was also moving up a weight class and I've seen a few of Callazo's previous fights and the guy's no mug. So all in all it was a very good performance.
It looks like Hatton has trouble with southpaws though, Eamon Magee was also a Southpaw and he gave Hatton some serious shit about 4 years ago.

Hatton has fought in America before hand. It was the first time that he was top of the bill in the states.
I think that he did well, looked to be in some real shit in the 12th. He could not or did not do anything about that hook that he kept getting in his face. That eye looked bad at the end.
I think that when he beds into the welter weights he will do alot better. He has two more fights with HBO and i think that kerry kayes will be doing alot more strength training with him to bring his punching up to the power it should be. He can punch hard as a light welter but cazzallo was just walking through them.
