I'm thinking about taking the rest of the year off to get used to training with equipment as I'd like to qualify for the BWLA British next year.

Anyone know if there are any comps going on around x-mas time? I will be back in the uk for 3 weeks and would love to hit up a meet.

Hello AJ
I Know there is a BPC comp in December, It's the Britsh Team and Deadlift Championships. It would be great to see you lift there.
Well done on your results from your last comp. It's great to see how you have improved since last years british.
I hope my next comp will be the GPC world championships in october.

do del you doing any bwla comps later in year ????
do del you doing any bwla comps later in year ????
I would like to do the London powerlifting Champs so I can lift in next years BWLA British and have a go at the 110kg BWLA Squat record. I don't think BWLA are too happy about me lifting in the BPC! I think that may cause a few problems.

Change of plan, looks like I may enter the 2005 BWLA British Unequipped Bench Press Championships on 24th July now as my 200kgs in the last comp qualified me by the skin of my teeth!
Phil..... it says on the form you sent me that the closing date for entries is the 15th July so that's ok but I also need my BWLA membership number - where can I find that as I don't think I've received one?
Justin Hurley
06-20-2005, 01:26 PM
It is the same number you have for the WSA !!!
Rob Thomas
06-20-2005, 02:51 PM
Yeah, I've realised that now!
Lloyd
06-20-2005, 08:41 PM
Yeah Del BWLA don't like people lifting in other organistaions! I have to join BWLA for the police competitions and they don't like me being in the BPC. I am trying to talk the police into using BPC but thay have used BWLA for years and they are a bit stuck in thier ways. Oh well.....single ply here I come!

We have the same problem in the US with USAPL (IPF afflitate) and the APF. I beileve they are worried that members competing in non-tested feds as they feel it is not good for the org.
i"ll be getting ready for the portsmouth strongman in august were we"ll have all the normal events looking forward to the tyre flip with a 440kg brute !!!!!!
Rob Thomas

The biggest tyre I've tried so far is around 380kgs. It's Dale Norris' tyre (www.dalenorris.co.uk) and I managed 4 flips before my lungs gave in! That monster then took it outside and did about 8 flips of the thing - UP A STEEP HILL!!!

Ok so I got an invite to the worlds.....do I go for it or stick with my original plan? I do not think I am good enough yet to make a good showing of myself but we will see....

Go for it. Win, lose, place last, who cares, be great to experience a world comp first hand.
I think I am going to enter the WPC worlds instead of the GPC. I know it is going to be an awesome comp and I want to experience that first hand. I will probably rank last or maybe one from last, but I'm not going to win, so I can also enjoy lifting instead of concentrating on placing in the top so much.
How about entering that Lloyd???
You can see Andy Bolton go for Mike Millers Squat, Dave Beattie mashing up some huge bench and squat. Chris Jenkins just lifting huge in all three, Justin Hurley placing last...LOL

hey justin,
i am sure you wont be last, you got some time to sort out what you want to inprove and make it work for you.... so you back in the gym yet ????
Justin Hurley
06-22-2005, 01:39 PM
Not yet.
Going to train tonight though. I was still too tired last night and thought it best to get a good night sleep and some more good food in me. I ate like a poor man on holiday, surprised I never lost much weight.

I might just go. I spoke to Bulldog about it last night and he said it would be good experience but money is a major issue as I am getting married. (the police pay for my entry into the other two events)
Bulldog is now switching to sumo deadlifting so we might see him hit the 300kg barrier and with the injuries he's had that would be a quality lift. His squat and bench will obviously be HUGE!
I'm sure you will make a good show of yourself Justin - you are an excellent lifter and came out on top of one of the hardest fought weight catagories.
i'm training for the portsmouth strongest man in august ,all the normal events looking forward to the tyre flip we got a 440kg brute my mate also located a massive an i mean MASSIVE 560kg tyre but we can't pick the fu**er up yet its proper heavy !!!!!!!!!!

Phil, the White Cliffs comp seems to be pretty popular - and Dale Norris is entering it so you could go along and support a fellow welshman!
Here are some details:
July 9th, Whitfield Primary School.
This is the 3rd year we will be running the White Cliffs contest, having had a good turnout and a fun day on both previous occasions. Once again the contest is being run to raise funds to benefit the disabled children who go to school at the Aspen unit, and also the children at Whitfield Primary School.
I've just contacted the school and they have now got a mobile classroom on the part of the field we have used for the contest the past 2 years! I am going to visit the school wednesday evening and they will show me the alternative area they would like me to use for the contest.
After I have seen the area, I will confirm the events. It may be that some of the events listed earlier will change to make better use of the space we are given. The contest looks like it may be particularly popular this year, and so I may also modify some of the previously listed events to speed up the flow of the contest on the day.
There will be 3 classes.
Mens Lightweight - for athletes weighing under 105kg.
Mens Heavyweight - for athletes weighing over 105kg.
and possibly the first ever in the UK...
Woman's NOVICE.
This class is for women who are beginners to the sport. The events will be slightly lighter than is usually the case. This class is recommended for women who have either never competed before, or have only done a couple contests previously. This class will take place provided there are a minimum of 3 competitors signed up by the end of june.
Events:
Women's Novice:
100kg deadlift for reps.
40kg log for reps.
150kg yoke 20m
Farmers Hold - 70kg per hand.
Mystery Medley.
Men - Under 105kg
Cage deadlift for max.
105kg log for reps.
Carry and drag.
Farmers Hold - 110kg per hand.
Mystery Medley
Men - Over 105kg
Cage Deadlfit for max.
120kg log for reps.
Carry and drag.
Farmers Hold - 130kg per hand.
Mystery Medley
