Great day out with some awesome lifters putting up some big numbers.
Will be putting up the pics of clips of the day tomorrow, didn't catch the end of the deadlifts as the battery run out on the camera and I forgot to bring a spare.
Craig Coombes, Dai Squires and Dean Bolt did an awesome job with wins in each of their classes: 100kg, 110kg & 125+kg respectively.
How small did I feel next to these massive fellas:
Rob Thomas, Dean Bolt, Dai Squires, Craig Coombes and me:

Hi Phil,
Are you the Welsh coach for the BWLA commonwealth??
Dai did say he was going to introduce me to you, but it was a very hectic day for him, so it probably slipped his mind.
OK when I speak to Dai next I'll get your number from him, be great to speak with you.

yeah think so.. the day went on a bit and you are right with all going on it is hard to keep track on things, had a good chat to dave over a few beers last night you know the shit putting the world to rights and all that...
after all you got to relax after a comp !!!!!
Justin Hurley

Yeah I like to have a week off after a comp, good to relax and give your body a break, lets see how long Dai has off. I give him 3 days before he's back in the gym.
Yes I know you'll read this Dai, STAY OUT OF THE GYM!!!! :D :D :D

good advice after all you need to recover and let you body repair after all that hard work

I qualified for the BPC British last Sunday up in Birmingham. I'm going to compete in the British in June.
Lifting with equipment is all new to me, I still haven't got a squat suit, but I'm still hoping to do well.
I have set a goal of 750+kg total. In fact I'm confident of hitting 750kg providing my squat suit comes soon.

Justin Hurley

I want to lift WSA and BPC, though I might give BPO a try next year or the year after.

Justin Hurley

No, I'm giving that one a miss. I can't afford the time off before the comp and time off to recover afterwards.

Don't think so. See how it goes. I think I am going to compete in the WPC worlds in November.
I am pretty sure there isn't a BPO site.

Hey Beng, go for it mate. Once you enter your first comp you'll get bitten by the bug - just look how far Justin's gone since entering his first comp in February!! (that was your first comp wasn't it Justin???).
I'm hoping to enter my third comp of the year next month. My training has also improved since meeting the likes of Justin, Phil and Chris etc. as it gets you motivated to get to their levels. Also by aiming for a comp, you feel like you are actually training for a purpose and not just because you enjoy it if you see what I mean???
BTW, those thick bars are still holding out mate and have been great for my strongman training!

Glad to hear the bars still going strong and i am definatly focussing on a goal rather than just wanting to train, Golden arrow was one of the guys who was at saturdays meet, it was cool

February was my first comp at the WSA. I competed raw and intended to lift raw for a while but Dai and Chris talked me into equipped lifting, so I made a last minute decision to enter BPC, just did enough to qualify at Tysley in April and hoped for better things with a squat suit at the British.
Four squat suits later and still none that fitted me, so I still entered with no squat suit. Luck and hard work just got me the win at the British.
Next year I will put 100kg+ on my total.
