I watched a DVD of Dietmar Zint totalling 1052kg in the WPC. He uses Metal gear (2 ply I suspect for the wpc) for everything but doesn't seem to get a massive amount out of all this.
It doesn't matter how strong you are, the material can only hold so much energy. I suppose the bigger you are the more material but the same size lifters can get totally different %'s out of their gear depending on how well they lift raw. So obviously a lifter with a smaller raw total will get a bigger % out of the gear.
Dietmar throws about some huge numbers raw, so I suppose this is why it looks like he gets less out of the gear.

It has a lot to do with training methods. Equipment gives you the most in the hole/off the chest which means you can handle heavier weight providing you train the top end, but generally if you train raw you train full ROM and therefore when gear is added they are not prepared for the massive increases and so get less out of the equipment.
Badboy, those numbers are VERY low. What weight class do you lift in?

cheers guys
the squat suit is a 5 year old centurion NXG ( not NXG+) its stretched out. I am also limited because when the weight goes over 200kg ( my raw max roughly) i have problems walking it out.
I may try a metal viking or hardcore. What you rkn AJ? i squat narrow
the deadlift suit is an inzer max dl which is too big. I may switch to another one- any ideas AJ?
bench shirt is a titan fury.
I have trained mostly raw and only just started using gear.
best numbers 195-200/115/225 raw.
AJ do you know Lee Marshall? i have trained with him a few times. Also, any info on how to adjust my training for gear, esp on the squat and bench would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like you are in need for a new squat suit and deadlift suit if money is tight i would go with a Inzer Hardcore with the new Predator briefs (www.irongladiators.com) as it works great for both, but if you got the extra cash get a Hardcore and a Metal Pro deadlift suit. As for training check out the Westside methods. Your going to need to start doing chains or bands to really help develop that upper end strenght. Also GM's, Hypers, Pull throughs are essential. Now onto the bench...
You got yourself a pretty good bench shirt you just need to start training for a shirted bench. Two ways to do this Westside www.elitefts.com or Metal Militia www.metalmilitia.net look under articles. Once you switch training your number will take off. But remember your tri's are the most important muscle in the bench! IMO
As for Lee i met him when i was back from the USA last summer at the BPC Championships but we didn't really talk much but he seemed like a nice guy.
Badboy007, you probably know this, but at 6' 90kg you really need to gain weight. I'm also 6' and my numbers didn't really start to go up until I got into the 110kg class. I suggest eat protein, train Westside. It does take time and age though. I was 90kg 26 yrs old. I think I hit 110kg at 30 or 31 yrs. Of course, I was in the Army back then and had to do a lot of running and was not powerlifting, so you can probably get there faster (if that is something you are interested in).
I'm amazed you can get a fury to work at all. Mine is not particularly tight, but I doubt I could get anything under 190kg to touch my chest. Maybe the dynamics are different with smaller sizes.
You might get more out of a squat suit by squatting wide.

yank points taken on board and agree with gaining weight.
i will hit 110kg within the next few years.
may start a journal on this site
It can be done and you can do it without getting fat! Strive for balance in your diet. Eat too clean and you may find it hard to gain. Eat like a pig and you'll look like one. Train heavy and get tons of sleep. I need 8 (really 9) hours a night to grow. Hard to do, but lots of fun.

yank could you show me what that diet would look like?
;) i prefer 12 hours sleep a day
I think of it in terms of priority. I try not to get too detailed or strict - that works for some, but not for me. Main thing is to eat often, at least 4 times a day and 5 is better. Some do 6. That means none of the meals will be all that big. I usually go with 3 meals, and 2 shakes and try to include protein every time I eat. I don't eat a lot, but I eat something every few hours. As for what to eat, first eat your protein. Something like 2g per kg of weight is about right. In other words, try to eat at least 200g a day. That is a lot. I can't get close without protein shakes. Then get your fruits and veggies in. More = better esp on the veggies, but try to eat a few servings of each every day. I also take a muli vitamin pak. Get all that in and then eat whatever else you want WITHIN REASON. Eat often, get in your protein, fruits and veggies and you probably won't eat too much junk as you'll be too full. Eating super clean doesn't work for me. You know what's good and what's bad so just try to maintain balance. Eat some cake? Sure, but don't eat a whole cake every night. Pork ribs? Sure, but mostly chicken breasts. I also like to thrown in some walks (I walk 25 min to work each way right now) or some tire / sled dragging. Look at yourself in the mirror. Getting fat? Walk more, eat a bit less. Train hard and fast (minimal rest times). Finally, remember, you are trying to gain weight and get strong, not win a posedown. You probably won't be ripped, but you should be able to see some abs and look better than most with your shirt off.
