They both have similar training styles, except metal militia splits the two day workouts a week into a day of raw and then a day of top end and using a shirt.
Westside tends to favour a day of max effort and a day of speed.

I like the westside approach through the year then I think it might be worth swapping to a metal militia a few months out from a comp to nail any weaknesses with using a shirt.

What do you do think?

Many provacative questions this morning Justin! I agree in general with your plan. I have only limited familiarity with MM, but as I understand it, it is tons of work with the shirt and board presses. The volume of work seems very high if you train "unassisted". I am a big Westside fan. A few weeks before a meet I make all of my ME bench workouts board presses with shirt. I start with 3 boards and drop a board every week. This has worked very well for me in the past. You certainly need to put the shirt on to learn to use it and board presses with the shirt are a great way to do that. I also like them because they are the only upper body ME exercise I have found that allows me to use more than I can bench. The board presses w shirt allow me to get used to big weights and build confidence. I use a Titan Fury, and it is not that hard to learn. With the gear MM uses, you need a lot of technique and experimentation and that only comes with practice, so even more shirt work makes sense.

Some folk don't seem to get alot out of the speed benching on Westside and switch it to repetition work, especially inexperienced lifters. It's supposed to take a while to build up the work capacity to handle the volume on MM.

If you are bench only nothing beats MM but because of the volume most 3 lift competitiors favor Westside. Personally i have mixed the two with great success, you just have to listen to your body.

How do you mix the two Ash?

I find after about 2-3 weeks of MM my body needs a rest so i will switch my raw day with a DE day. I really have never followed the Westside template solely just picking bits here and there. Maybe next training cycle ill go strictly WS...decisions decisions
